Also, try listening to the advice of those who have had this problem.
Thanks for the advice but that looks to me like a very short-sighted botch job. I reckon it would probably do more damage tot he car in the long run.

So still no better off......

Think its time to visit the BM specialist.
No problem mate. Spend a couple of hundred quid at a 'specialist' who knows no more than us. We've being doing all this for a long time. Advice is free, but please feel free to ignore it - no skin off my nose!

By the way, many thermostats have a bleed hole. How exactly will it cause damage?
Well after a bit of forum searching hear and there alot of people say it's fine to put a hole in the thermo, but just as many say it's not. Apparently can lead to headgasket failure especially with M30 heads and also problems with the car not heating up properly.

So as I'm planning to keep the car for myself I'll be looking for a more longterm and safer solution.

Also about the sepecialist, I don't know if he knows more than you, but I'm pretty sure he knows more than me, so unless you're willing to come and have a look at it, I think its best I take it to him.

Maybe it was one of his valeters taking him home from the pub in the 'works kitted van' and he had a bit of a dream about the ferrari when he nodded off on the dual carriageway :)

:rolling:

Don't under estimate the works van, its got a front splitter that gives it a hell of a lot of traction and stability at high speed
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

A place called RSJ in Birmingham. Got a lot of classic BM's over there so going to ask him to have a look.

Absolutely no way am I getting involved in some old 6 Series coughing it's coolant up - but thanks for the kind offer! :thumb:

But - out of interest - could you point us in the direction of the forums that say it's not a good idea? Would be interesting to hear the rather odd reasoning behind it. What are your own thoughts on how a tiny hole used to bleed excess air from the cooling system can cause head gasket failure? To be so vehemently against it, you must have some idea............?

Good luck though - hopefully it's not the usual corroded waterways/shagged head gasket.... :D winkeye

Quality! Likelihood of getting an old M30 anchor investigated, diagnosed and repaired by this bunch before christmas? Id punt it at about 100:1 :)

These donks are meant to submerged in salt water, on dry land you'll always have overheating issues. Does your prop spark on tge Tarmac?

Uncle Ben's Basmati K Seal FTW! Perfect every time.

Careful not to use long grain though - might block the bleed hole in the thermostat and cause the head gasket to blow. :D
