Got my spare set of injectors back from being ultrasonically cleaned etc., so i'm looking forward to fitting them this weekend - hopefully without removing the inlet manifold.

I'm sure i've read on here before that this is possible, though a little tricky. Any advice on offer??

First de-pressurise the fuel rail by starting the car then pulling out the fuel pump relay.

Remove the rocker cover,

Undo the1/4 turn connector on the fuel rail wiring harness under the inlet manifold where it connects to the main loom. There is also a 1/4 turn locknut too.

Pop off the injector wiring harness/plugs, some just pop off and some need the metal clips removing first.

Remove the feed and return pipes from the fuel rail, make a note of which goes where.

Undo the 4 fuel rail mounting screws

Squirt WD40 on the o-rings where the injectors fit inside the inlet manifold

Grab the pressure regulator side of the fuel rail and pull up whilst giving it a wiggle, then work your way along the rail pulling the injectors out of the manifold. They're sometimes very difficult to pull out.

Remove the clips and pull out the injectors from the rail, again they can be stiff to remove.

Fit the new injectors with all new 0-rings to avoid leaks, it's easier to fit them if you apply a litlle oil to the o-rings before fitting them.

Once everything is back on the car you need to prime the injectors, use a piece of wire about 3" long stripped at both ends to short out pins 30 & 87 on the fuel pump relay base. This runs the pump without the engine cranking to build up pressure and force out all the air from the fuel rail. You'll hear the note of the pump change after about 10-20 seconds, remove the link and refit the relay.

Job done, if the injectors have been done properly you'll probably notice a slight improvement in driveability and mpg.

Cheers,

Iain T

I thought you would've pulled the fuse and then started the car? I don't like pulling fuses when it's running!
