My 89' 325i Sport needs a new water pump so i'm trying to find out what the best water pump is to use.

I have been planning to get a OEM BMW part but are there any that are made by the same people as the OEM part but not as cheap?
The car gets a good bit of abuse so don't mind having to spend the dollars on a good pump.

Any info?

Go to GSF or Euro parts they supply Valeo and KWP ones.

I have a feeling BMW make their own-the last one I bought (about £110?) had only the BMW logo and nothing else.

KWP pumps are fine - 30 quid and they'll last two cambelt changes.

Make sure you check the water pump you buy from Euro's as bought one from them and they gave me one which was the wrong fitment.

I take it it had an extra outlet. Water pumps for early E30s have an extra outlet for the expansion tank, as this is mounted as on an E21.

Thanks people, last time i checked a BMW pump was £93, inflation as usual up to about £110 now lol.

Are all the pumps for sale from all the different place have a metal impellor? I assume that due to their age they will be metal but as plastic is cheaper and on newer cars just checking that not make in particular used them as the slip on the shaft after awhile.

I too have been supplied with the wrong pump (extra outlet) this also has a plastic impellor.
I will try and send it back and I think I'm gonna get one from bmw - the one I have removed from the car is genuine bmw and 23 years old and has no play anywhere and the impellor (metal) is still in good nick.

Haha, everyone getting the wrong one (with the two outlets) the one time I go in to buy one, I needed a two-outlet pump, and I get the facelift single-outlet! Still sitting around in my shed in the box somewhere.

Is the one you have spare got a metal impellor? If so how much you sell it for?

Also, what the best/strongest timing belt to go for? OEM?

It's the metal impeller type. Wouln't have walked out the door with anything else. I was just so focused on checking for the metal impeller that I forgot that there were the two types. Well, I knew there were two types, just didn't remember which had one or two outlets, and the guy at the counter assured me that it was the correct one for the year of my car. I know better now!

You know, I thought about digging it out and having a look at the receipt for it, and selling it on to a zoner at a better price, but I've done a facelift engine swap now, and might as well keep it, really. IIRC it was only around £24-£28 or maybe low £30's for it from GSF.
