The brake warning light (red one on the dash) on my brother's 316i tourer keeps coming on (well flickering anyway). None of the pads are worn, & both sensors are disconnected & connected together anyway! He's checked they're connected well, but the light's still on....
Any ideas??
Cheers!
Jon

i bet you can't guess what i did when that started happening on my m535i!! the sensors were disconnected and i'd imagine the wiring was broken somewhere.
however, on your brother's car is it the brake *lining* light or the fluid light (think the fluid light is the one with a '!' in a circle)
or the handbrake light? those are all red...

If it's the pad wear light, (and it probably is), and you want to fix it properly rather than bodging it, take out the instrument cluster and open it up. Near the temperature gauge, you will see the connections to a large 220 ohm resistor. (Position corresponds to a rectangular lump on the back of the instrument cluster casing.) Resolder these two joints and all will be well.

Cheers Brian... I'll get him to confirm that it's definately the pad wear light, & then I'll worry about it next time I see him! Neither of the sensors are connected to the pads so it doesn't matter if it's a bodge or a proper fix really...Brianmoooore wrote:If it's the pad wear light, (and it probably is), and you want to fix it properly rather than bodging it, take out the instrument cluster and open it up.
