m50 conv - fuel relay earth prob now?!?

right its nearly ready to roll! last few superficials that someone can hopefully answer....

1. the diagnostic plug loom has 2 thick black cables with ring connectors on. do these drop to earth?

2. i have a 4 pot wiring loom cover but it fouls the m50 inlet manifold. how has everyone got round this? shall i just cut it to fit? i can only find b28s with this cover fitted but im sure they have a bit more room on their inlet manifold. also, the main loom is as chunky as a random girl is on sunday morning without beer goggles. do you guys cut most of the slack away?

3. the ecu loom seems to be a bit short to get the ecu in the standard location. whats the solve for this? surely not extend EVERY cable or have i half arsed the loom modding??

thats it! other than sort out the fuel pump wiring issue that some people on here have had (+ im pretty sure i know where ive ballsed up on this anyway) im ready to go!

Hi mate,

I believe the two black cables are the earth on the e36 they earth just below the diag socket.

I to have had trouble with the 4 pot cover i have cut it to fit it looks ok, as for the ecu I played about untangling some of the wires in the loom and have managed with the e36 loom to get my ecu under the dash where the originag sat had to make a bracket thou for it to sit on as the ecu now sits faceing different to the original.
It was however a bit of a struggle to get all the wires inside the 4 pot cover a lot of little cable ties helped lol.

i actually read your post about the fuel pump issue you had a while back but you had no replies as to a solution from anyone! what was it in the end dude?

I paid for Dan to do mine so not had any issues as such apart from it being a bit short for the original ECU's bracket and I've had to attach making up my own as well. I've not yet tried to fit the cover yet as I don't have one but by the looks of it that isn't go in without being modded at all.

ended up bein an imobiliser from an old alarm that had been removed prior to me gettin the car just had to trace it back and rejoin the wire's. have you got a problem with your fuel pump??

yeah i have. my stepdad did the servo and the immo wires were twisted (not soldered) right next to the servo so i reckon theyve come loose but i never clicked till i got home. ill get it sorted sunday hopefully lol

had a look at the immobiliser wires quickly after work and theyre intact so its gotta be the power to the relays. bugger.

bloody hell!!!!!!!!!!!!

right so i found out what id cocked up on. the power to the relays is feed via one of the loops that id earthed instead of taking it to the pos. swaped it over - fired it up and it ran...great!!!! 10 minute job easily solved with a fresh clear head on!

turned it off then preceeded to tidy up the loom a bit to get it a bit thinner so the cover goes on from the 4 cyl. trimmed away a few wires etc, about 10 in total, not too hard as they all go to the same colour, just losing excess cable. just about to leave and tried to crank it.... wont start?!?!?!??!?

ok.... so again it looks like the relays arent kicking it again.....wtf??? test light out - but this time there is power whereas before there wasnt so its not the same problem. anyway i probe the earth on the fuel relay and the test light glows up dim? then i hear the fuel relay click and engage and the pump prime? so there is obviously an earth fault here but the green brown is earth switched direct from the ecu isnt it? so why would it light up the tester? it didnt before!

ive obviously cocked up here but ive tracked and re tracked then gave up for today, back to square fecking 1! what a ballache. i cant think what wire incorrectly hooked would stall the relay earth as i never touched the fuel relay earth wire??

sorted! red wire to ecu was hanging on by a strand. cut it, reconnected and bang! there she goes!

cheers mate! im still chopping down the loom to get the blasted cover on the 4 cyl wiring box. ive took loads out and its still too chunky lol. Just got to sort out the exhaust now and shes good to go! the manis are cut and welded just need to fashion a 2 into 1 and run the single pipe.

thats where i'm at right now just got to the back box section. i'm fittin up a stainless tail pipe. think she sounds better with just the manifolds thou
