only had car a couple of weeks, thing she's been lowered, suspension seems hard but am used to driving boring cars, all tyres different, and cheap but decent tread, pulls a little to the left, but main thing is that there seems a lot of feedback from the road and i am constantly twitching the steering, shes great on corners so am wondering whether this is normal or something to investigate.

you shouldn't have to make constant corrections to keep it in a straight line or on a constant degree of turn. might want to check track rod ends for play. also grab hold of each wheel and give it a good shake/rock and feel for any play/ knocking feeling to determine if anything is loose/worn out etc.

If it feels like you have 4 wheel steering then chances are rear subframe or trailing arm bushes are shot.

E30's have reasonable steering feel but they are by no means pin sharp

yeah, didn't think of that the wheels do look a bit tatty and knocked, i think the previous owner only put them on to sell.

With 205/50/16 tyres and stiffer suspension my 323i tramlines (follows bumps and stuff on the road). How much depends on the quality of the road but on bad roads it can pull left and right a bit and I have to make small corrections. It doesn't happen on good smooth roads, if it does for you then it is probably something like what has already been suggested.

astondg, i have same wheel size, when i picked the car up and drove back, M25/A12 seemded ok, i live in the country so the roads have cambers, humps, bumps the lot, so it sounds like your've nailed it, cheers mate. I'm going to get it looked over at weekend for balancing, tracking, steering and suspension, just in case.
