track rod ends, new control arms? Are u running sdilly wheels like 18's and 19 inchers?

Has the car had a good shunt in the past?

more info needed!

my steering is fine with a complete suspension change this summer, every bush changed. Now that got rid of alot of noises and wierd handling probs!

expensive though!

Isn't this your second thread on the same thing?!

on level ground? snapped spring maybe then or a very bad top mount, but u would see that with the bonnet up.

17's on E30's cause some bad tram lining, they even tram line on 16's with sh!te tyres

Look into the "Tramlining" effect.

Could be - i had terrible trouble with tramlining when i went from my 15" BBS to the 16" Hartge rims. I managed to solve it by putting far better tyres on the front.

I have heard that the 17" Alpina rep's do suffer a lot from tramlining.

My understanding is that the wheels try to follow any tramlines in the road, i.e. wear in the road caused by millions of cars following the same path. In my case, i'd find the steering being tugged in ways i didn't necessarily want the car to go, especially under breaking.

Someone else may have a better explanation for this.

No. The effect is greatley magnified as the tyre/wheel size goes up. a standard suspension and wheel setup is designed to absorb the effect.

Also, the quality of the road surface is a big factor, very little tramling on a nice flat new road, very bad on an old road that has the "tramlines" from millions on cars/lorrys.

I see what you mean. Now there is another reason not to change too much of the original set up in my car. So all those mods are not THAT good sometimes then... :(

Going back to the original question....

Have you done any work on the rear suspension? Bad rear cross member(axle carrier) bushes can give the stearing a bad feel.

Or is the suspension possibly bent (hit a curb or something??) Hows the tyre wear at the back, worn on the inside of the tyre?
