A friend is looking at an '89 chrome bumper 320 auto with leather sports & 87k-ish miles. We're wondering what the going rate is.

It's in very good overall condition with no rust or paint issues, good mechanics etc. In fact, I used to own the car about 3 years ago & it was in really good nick & it hasn't done many miles since then.

I thought about £4k - £4.5k. What's the Zone's thoughts?

Also, what's the going rate for a Weisman hardtop. I know they used to go for £600 or so.

Without seeing the car or having sight of any history it's impossible to value. 4-4.5k seems high for one of the least desirable models, i.e. 2.0 with slushbox considering theres been some nice Motorsports about for not much more.

I agree. I would want a very clean 325i manual for that price. Mine is pretty tidy and was picked up for a lot less than that. I would go for around £2-2.5k - especially at this time of year. Look around at what they're going for on ebay and you'll have a better idea. I've seen semi-decent 325's go for under £2k.

Hi Andy
If the car in question is your old cab.
Then I would be looking to sell it for what he paid for it.
But, as its the end of summer, I would allow 500 less.
If I remember right it took you quite a while to sell it.
So he'll have to be patient.

Nick,
Yes it's my old cab. I sold it for £3600 with the roof. I was allowing for a little rise in value but he's been told it's worth £6k. He's only done 120 miles this year so it's just not getting used.

It may be regarded as pricey but compared to this it's cheap: http://www.4starclassics.com/BMW-E30-320-For-Sale/ !!!

Blimey ! 6k
Is that the BMW Car Club valuation ?
Having seen your old car in the past, its a genuine good looking car, you'll probably agree it wasn't spotless,
and I thought the price you sold it for was fair.
In the real world 3600 + cost of the hard top would be about right for me.
I think 6k would be an Old Colonel or WLN price, and private sale, maybe what I suggested before.
He'll be better waiting till next spring.

I have been offered €8,000 euro for my 1993 318i lux cab. It still has less than 29,000 miles and is mint. So price versus value should be discussed.
