I decided to take the E30 off the road for some tinkering so started scouring ebay for a cheap reliable snotter to tool around in for a while... Thinking diesel Pug, late 1990's rover, you know, something really cheap and horrid...

So i may have got carried away when something silly and cool came up! :o:

Meet my new ride!

I have no rational explaination for why i bought it but at about 700kg and with around 80-90bhp, it's entertainingly nippy and it handles like a go-kart!

despite the badges, it's actually a MK2 polo saloon, has a 1.3 mk3 polo GT engine, stainless 4 branch manifold, cone filter innit, some uprated cam, pulley and chip. Jamex suspension. 7x13 alleycat alloys. MK2 golf gri front brakes. Oh and it comes with some Yokohama A032r track tyres on steelies too :)

As for extras... err.. stereo, PAS, servo, electric windows, sunroof, aircon, abs etc etc... well, it hase NONE of them! Basic motoring at it's best :P

Always thought that cars which stared as hatchbacks and then the manufacturer sticks a boot on the back were pointless - Astra/Belmont, Escort/Orion, Nova, Polo/Derby. Golf/Jetta etc

Take the practicality of a hatchback and ruin it by putting a big ugly arse on the car

Having said that I do quite like that :o:

haha, controversial wagon or what!

I have no rational explanation for why i like it... but i do! :)

as far as practicality goes it's not too bad. averages 36mpg round town, has a massive boot (will take two 16" wheel kids bikes with ease) and apart from the 1" ground clearance it's pretty good to live with! :P

Inform me when you come to part with it - its really cool!

I may consider owning something small and cheap to go to work and back in!

Dibs please (dependant on my bank balance at the current time!)
I'll check with the manager

With the present level of torque steer, more power from a G40 lump would be fun but lethal! :) It's fast enough for the brakes/suspension as it is... that said, my E30 was once too, then i fitted a M30 so who knows!

Mercdriver, i'll add you to the looooong list of people who've got dibs in already! :P

These things are great fun though i could only ever take the bread van type as the others look a bit gash imo.

If i could get one with power steering i would make it my daily.

Enjoy it through the winter and keep the e30 tucked away 'til spring.

Great choice.

I actually like the hatchback with boot style (Belmont excepted), had a couple of VW Boras when I lived in the UK and I really liked them, except for their chronic understeer problems which the Golf suffered a lot less from.

This particular example however.... strikes me as it came from an ebay add with "one off - unique" in the title... but as stated, each to their own !!
These are sensations as hard to forget as they are to ignore.....
