thinking bout an m50 swap on my e30 whats involved have chance to get a complete L reg e36 325 manual for 400 with only 71k miles, what extra is needed and rough cost etc

This is for the 2.8 M52, but it's 99% the same as doing M50

Allow for 2K to do it properly. No sense putting in an old run down m50/52. So you should properly go through everything. Also don't forget your car will now have a heavier engine and more power so you should get some appropriate suspension and stopping power, as well as an appropriately geared diff (LSD preferably).
For the engine you should replace the cooling system, plugs, clean injectors, replace gaskets, etc.
As for other things to remember when budgeting:
-fluids
-random trips to the hardware store
-late night "shit I don't have this part" posting on the forum
-power steering lines
-brake adaption
-wiring adaption...
When I swapped mine, I didn't really ever need to refer to instructions as I had read about it so much I just remembered...
Moral is, DO YOUR RESEARCH AND YOU GET A QUALITY JOB!!!
