M50 2.5 What do I need to do to give more power!!!

Cheap & Simple ones....

And maybe some expensive ones like Turbo / Charger route.

But first instances I want to get about 220 ish...

M52 engine, plain and simples

The m50 hasn't got a stitch on the m52, I should know I've had both in my car one after the other!

But on a serious note, non vanos chips are easier to come by than vanos friendly ones I found when I had mine.
Set of cams, chip and a decent flowin exhaust should see good gains. Don't forget to add an m20 flywheel-clutch combo if it isn't already fitted, this will liven her up a bit.....

I'm told the internals on the iron blocked anchor will take around 350-400bhp without needing uprating (talk about being robust lol), anything up to 600bhp is achievable but would need a fair bit of coin and stregthening to run safely

Simply not worth it.

Have you compression tested your M50B25? (static or dynamic)
Almost certainly the best thing you could do with your 20 year old M50 is to get the bores honed and the rings changed and while you're at it all the bearings done. Then equally important get the valve seats and valves recut and probably the valve guides done. Once the compression is back to spec and the engine is tight like new and you've spent £2500 getting there, step back and mull over how your engine is still less desirable than the B28 that Dan is selling. Unless the B28 is properly worn, it'll still have more HP than you too.

This may sound harsh, but I'm in a similar position right now with my M50B25, except I only aim to get it close to the stock 190HP and have it not explode on the motorway at the worse possible moment, not try and push it to 220. If I was to spend any money at all on engineering, which for a 20 year old engine should be the first port of call, I'd want to do it on an M52B28 or an S50 or something, not an M50B25, good engine though it is.

i had an m50 in my car but it only lasted 5000 miles before i had to go m52.... it wasnt the m50 was slow, it made a quick car but for the money i put in it just wasnt enough!!! the m52 was an instant differnce and make a properly fast little car
