Well, sold the van yesterday, and after 3 yrs in a transit, I fancied a bit of comfort for a change, so for my daily driver I am picking this up at the weekend.

First foray into a 'modern' BMW, so we'll see how we get on, seems to be a good price for the condition and with this on the road, the E30 will get stripped down in the summer as I want to get rid of the few bits of rust before it gets beyond the point where I want to do it.

Hmm, nice to drive and look at, however it's a fairly grim mpg outlook, with 143 bhp vs 1.9t that's 75bhp/tonne, which will see you hitting the wrong side of the estimated mpg figure in reality.

Hi Mattycoops43, nice car mate, i've got an e39 touring (same colour) and its an absolute pleasure to drive every time, such a comfortable quiet car and has a decent size boot also. You'll love it....good purchase mate. Have a check for rust on the lower edge of the tailgate as this is common on e39 tourings, also the rear wiper motor tends to corrode and jam, worth stripping and greaseing up if you have time.

E39's are great, but i'd stay clear of the 2.5tds engine unless they have sorted out the issues with the fuel pumps (i had one in my e34 and they keep stalling when they wear out - same engine in the range rover p38 and omegas iirc)

Thanks guys, ref the mileage, I only do about 4-5k miles a yr in my car, the missus has an A class diesel that does 60mpg and we use that for long trips.
That mpg figure is average, it's meant to hit 40 on a run, but I do do mostly short trips, but then not many cars are economical on a 4mile run to work. I was getting worse figures from my transit 2.4 and I was putting about £25/week in that. I won't be booting it anyway, too many cameras in Newport!
I don't think 150k is particularly high miles for it so I am hoping it is not clapped out, anyway, I have paid a returnable deposit, so if it doesn't look and drive right when I view I'll walk away, but to be honest, I reckon it looks pretty good.
Will find out Sat!

very nice thinking about one of these myself but i think i'm going to get an E36 as theres less to go wrong E39's can cost a lot of £££'s to fix

Yes, well I do all my own servicing etc, and my attitude is that if any of the toys break, I won't spend money fixing them. I'll just do without.

Picked it up today, drove it 100 miles back up the A303 and some twisty lanes as it was shut at shaftsbury. Have to say, well chuffed. Nice to drive, lovely inside and it's very clean. FULL BMW service history, apart from the last two stamps which are bmw specialist. I have a 3" thick pile of receipts for about 10k, almost everything has been done by bmw in the cars whole life.#
All I need is a couple of bits to get it mint, need a cd changer as it only has tape atm, but has the slot and wires for the changer, need a new rear wiper motor as it's seized, the glass doesn't open on the tailgate, don't know why yet, might be wire or the button, and airbag light is on, but I have a jiffy bag in the boot with a bypass module for the seat occupancy or some such trickery, apparently the wires get broken under the seat so that might fix it.
All in all a fantastic drive, not sporty, but lovely for a cruise. Sport box auto climate and a 13speaker sound system that sounds pretty sweet. I reckon the 100 mile drive cost me £15 in fuel so that's not too bad for twisty roads.
