Polisher Tool Help

Hi there guys

I am in the market for a Polisher tool. Just to wax and polish the car, i was thinking something simple and straight forward like this

It’s nothing professional it’s just something I can do in the garage or out the sunshine on a dry day...

Is this ok if not could you recommend me a better one which will carry out the simple job. Also do I need to bear in mind which speeds I should look at as I am aware of making the speed to fast could damage the paint work?

one, you can not use that to wax the car.
two, a machine is only recommended if you need to correct the paint

i've been into the whole detailing thing on cars for years but its only in the last 3 years i've progressed to machine polishing. each time you use the machine to polish a car with compound you are eating away at a small layer of paint. so if you are under the illusion that you can use it on the weekends or every month to buff your car you are mistaken

once a car has been polished my machine and had some correction work done ( such as remover swirls, minor scratches etc ) you need to have a good layer of wax and when you wash it take car and maintain it. i last waxed my car 3 months ago and its still beading and looks good. i'll only think about doing it again come the end of october before winter really sets

Ahh cheers Kos thanks for the advice dude i was only glued to the idea after watching a number of YouTube videos of people using such tools to work on their bodywork.... allowing it to get the shine they wanted

I presume my car could do with a good ole polish which may brighten it up a little more then just a regular wash and wax which it gets every once a month if its lucky lol

So Kos what Polishing Machine do you recommend bearing in mind i will only use it again just once in every 3 to 4 month ?

most cars is see could do with machine polishing, its all dependant on how they are looked after, i recently did it for a member here called bhups

cheap half decent rotary for starting out is a silverline silverstorm approx £50.00, for a DA look at the Kestrel DAS-6.

If you want to spend money look at a Dodo Juice Spin Doctor, Makita, 3M Rotary polisher, the Kestrel DA if fine for general work but will not get to the same levels as a rotary, plus a rotary gets the job done quicker.

rotary every day of the week.

get a silverline. almost identical to the makita but a 1/4 of the price. i;ve had mine for 3 years and its still going strong.

till you get the hang of it, use autoglym super resin polish. you will not burn the paint and it works very well being worked in by machine. dont use any pads that are too abrasive.

the 3M machine is good, but at £200+ quid, its a fair chuck of cash for some one starting out. the dodo machine is not all that. its just a re branded item from god knows who

elite car care do some good products and prices and will supply anything you need

Kos what pad do you recommend for a rotary? My paint work is in a sorry state.

it depends how bad it is.

i'm still learning about pads, but for the most part i stick with 3M ones which match their compounds

they do a black waffle pad which i use for glazes

what compound you thinking of using

Have not go much knowledge in which to use. I've got some SRP at home and a single speed rotary polisher which I have to be very careful with. Paintwork is heavily swirled and has quite a few scratches. Its also going to need a marathon session with a touch of stick because of the stone chips.

touch it up first, build them up then polish it up by machine

SRP will do a good job of getting rid of the swirls, even by hand but you will need to seal in with a wax/sealant

as for a single speed rotary, what RPM does it run at ?

You can use a DA for applying wax, infact, Dodo Juice even sell Supernatural as a stick, specifically designed for this purpose, it looks a bit like a deodorant stick, a DA also does a good job of applying glazes and liquid waxes as it makes a loveley job of spreading a fine, even layer of product, SRP is also worth using in this way, always use a finishing pad though. With regards to machinery, I have to say whilst the Silverlines are a fairly capable machine, they are not in the same league as a Makita though, it's by far the best machine in my view, it's not to noisy, it's well weighted, the motor never bogs down, it is expensive though i'll grant you that.

Silverline silverstorm to get you started then after a few years and your confidence has grown then look at upgrading to a Makita. Defo recomend 3M polishes and Chemical Guys Stuff. Pads i like either Lake Country or the Chemical Guys Hex Logic , although lots of people seem to like Sonus Pads. I would recomend some Chemical Guys No778 (light- Medium) on a light Cutting Pad if you are new to the whole process.
