Like the titles says! What fuel economy can I expect from a '91 325i Auto. No guesstimates please. If you've got one and coiuld tell me that would be great.

its fairly poor to be honest, not sure of manufacturer figures but in mine (87 model so older engine) i get about 300-350km from 50 litres of fuel... but bear in mind i live in a very hot country so engines dont run so well due to less dense air, and we always run with A/C day and night and this is mainly city driving (i live in Bahrain which is about the same size as London).

but my 320 returns the same economy (in fact some times a bit less cause its a cab)

my OBC tells me 13.8 ltrs per 100KM
I get 380-420km depending on how i drive and how long i risk driving around with the reserve light on  .my car is coming up for a refill soon, i will tell you how much i have done as soon as the light comes on.

Thanks guys. Had to do my sums and convert it into miles per gallon. Wasn't expecting answers from such exotic places :D
By my reckoning its only 20mpg, not good :(
Cheers

20mpg is about right but if all on motorway that may shoot up as high as 23mpg!!

BUT it will be 20mpg of good fun rear wheel drive!!

Manuals do give slightly better performance and economy so would go for that if its a 6 cylinder you desire.

if you want best performance but some economy go for a 318is, 4 cylinder and 136hp

(325 170hp and 320 about 125)

If autos really do give 23mpg even on the motorway, I'd definately go for a manual! Mine might get as low as 20 in heavy traffic, but on a run it gets over 30 easily...

sorry mate should have made it more obvious, was taking the pi55! my little island here in the gulf is so small that never done a motorway only check but i would imagine somewhere near to 30mpg in cool england is easily achievable, but roof down with A/C on (yes that correct a/c on , it get to 50degrees gotta keep yer feet cool) and i see no real difference between motorway and town in my 320, the 325 sport runs the same. but here fuel 8p a litre so never really bothered me!! (sorry guys if you paying a pound!!)

Depends how you drive it :D My 325 Cab Auto has always done better than 25 to the gallon, normally nearer 30.

Used to average 27 out of an auto coupe. Checked properly, not going by the unreliable OBC. No longer get anywhere near that, but thats a different story.

interesting for when i get my auto 325se going. When i bought it and drove it back it was returning good consumption on the m-way, seems they just use a bit more to get going. It seemed to be more relaxed cruising too at 70 plus as the revs are so much lower than in my sport.

sport manual 3k rev @70

auto se 2.5k if that @70mph

living in london and driving an auto touring round gives me about 58 miles to a tenner, one day i will put a brick UNDER the acc pedal and put a 316 badge on the back to stop me pressing it too hard to find out what it should do

I have a 92 325i tourer Auto and on a motorway run I can get 27mpg. But thats using the kickdown to overtake and the odd blast to 120 and I dont hang about getting to or from the motorway.

Dont know about urban as I never check it.

I checked mine recently, OBC reported 23mpg, actual was just over 25mpg. That was a combination of town, lanes and motorway, driving 'normally' - not too soft, not too hard.

Fuel economy is incidental, you just need to accept how much extra having one of the sweetest engines in the world is gonna cost you. Worry about the fuel and you will end up driving a Fiat Seicento or something equally girly.
BTW. Smile if you get 25 but dont let anyone catch you driving like a wuss to achieve it. :P :P
