Washer bottle cleanup

The inside of my washer bottle is filthy and I want to try and get it looking a lot more presentable before it goes back in the car - if nothing else to stop the muck thats currently there clogging up the motors and washer jets !

I've blasted the inside with cillit bang and put it in the "parts washer" ( dishwasher

) this afternoon which has done an OK job of cleaning the outside but hasnt really touched the inside.

I'm now soaking it in a bowl of water & washing up liquid - the problem is you just cant get any sort of brush inside to give it a good scrub - it needs something that will actually soak the dirt off.

Anyone done this successfully that can give me some tips ?

Try a strong solution of Milton fluid-very mild bleach. Usualy works on things like this for me. If possible, leave it in to soak for a couple of hours.

After soaking this overnight the inside is still mucky. Got the jetwash on it today-not even that could remove the muck inside.

Tempted to try some acid-wheel cleaner on a little patch to see if that will shift it

The other thing I have seen used is caustic soda, which shouldnt hurt the plastic.

petrol, gunk, dishwasher, power washer just keep cleaning it.

advise you do not put petrol and gunk in your dishwasher though

or buy a new one

Get some Brake cleaner ROb, worked a treat on another bottle I tried it on.

Its back on the car - 100% better than it was but still not great

Haven't told the Mrs about the "parts washer"

Theres a whole load of car bits I can hammer through that thing! I never thought!!

hey! i've just done this......bend a coathanger and tie a bit of cloth on the end and you'll see the dirt comes off just fine. just bend the hanger to wherever the dirt is......(i can explain it very well as it's really easier to do then explain).....perhaps even try an old fashioned bottle cleaner with the wire handle that you can also bend to your hearts content!

I had the same problem, I just stuffed the bottle full of rags then rubbed a large bent screwdriver and it cleaned up a treat.

Bleached mine in the bath for about week, draining and topping up the hot water when ever I could. Missus had to use the shower that week as it was a top priority at the time

She understands... Most of the time.

Think I got a toothbrush into mine too which managed to get everything.

Just use toilet brush mate, good result!

bit of bleach and a toothbrush made mine come out a treat
