After much searching I stumbled upon a sale of a Manx taxed e30 BMW 318i Touring with 90,237 mile on the clock. So upon some bargaining, grumbling and inspections I bought this barge for £750 with a set of wheels and the bearings. Since then I have repaired the wheel bearings and the ICV has been cleaned, all that needs doing now is a full service and the top radiator hose replaced.

Sorry about the darkness and lack of pictures but tomorrow I will take some interior pictures and engine bay pictures.

Image
MMM.. BMW e30 lights. one of the sexiest lights on a car. Period.
Image
No rust on the tailgate. 8O

Only 90,237 miles 8)

I'll post some more pictures and information tomorrow winkeye

So today I got a pipe full of boiling coolant sprayed over my hands and face. Ouch... Well I need to replace that pipe and tend to my wounds.

Anyway onwards with photographs:

Image
I always have loved the look of the Touring's they are an estate car a 20 year old can drive.

Image
Inside it has the original bus steering wheel, no roof lining and the drivers seat looks like the last owner must've had a pet Lion. Apart from that its A-ok!

Image
Oh and horrible, grotty sunroof lining.

Image
Nice and clean in the front, except I took the radio out because its broken and makes the speaker's crackly.

Image
All original tool kit and medical kit.

Image
The side holder (no idea what its for) is very roomy, so roomy infact, it can hold loads of fluids for the engine.

Image
Rust-free tailgate :D

Image
The noisy bit at the front with the accelerator cable held on by cable ties. winkeye

Image
I like to think with the bonnet up it looks angry.

Image
Pea shooter. On a BMW?! Time for an upgrade me thinks...

Image
Cracked dash :( What E30 doesnt have a cracked dash?

Image
Is it me or are the back and front different alloys?

Anything to ask or request just give us a reply! :P

Ah ok, to me it just looks like the center solid bit is larger and also the BMW badge doesn't fit them.

Yes they are slightly different. Check the manufacturers markings under the centre cap.

Nice looking car this - could be optioned up very quickly for not much cash - looks rust free which is the main thing !

Some SE Skirts, a slight drop and some 15" BBS could be done for a few hundred quid - sure I saw someone selling a headlining on here for about £70 the other day - shipping might be a problem though ! A pair of cloth sports seats will also improve the interior.

Cracked dash is standard issue - there are un-cracked ones about you've just got to keep an eye open and grab one when it comes up for sale.

Tourings FTW

Yeah, it is mostly working and has not been messed about at all so its a good working ground to option up.

Yeah I love SE skirts but colour coding them to the car can be a hassle . I was thinking BBS alloys! Something like these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bbs-Rs-Rx2-16 ... 20bcb3b229
Gives the car a meaner look especially if I tint the front lights and drop it a little.

For the headlining, how do you do it on a Touring? Is it a tough job? because it looks to me like you take out that orange board somehow, trim some headlining on it and refit it. But that's only a guess.

Hmm sports seats are the dream but I can't and would think it would be hard to find touring rear seat in the same pattern.

Will do, just sending it over might be a problem so I might take a trip over next year and do a massive BMW shop.

Yeah Tourings are the next best thing to breathing. Haha!

If you are patient, you'll find some front sport seats that match your existing cloth. Don't forget that your touring will accept sport seats from 2 doors, 4 doors AND Tourings.

That's the route I took, certainly. You may have to buy a full interior, but they definitely come up now and then.

To help keep that tailgate minty, pull out the lower rubber strip and clean out the channel. Then re-fit the rubber strip with a layer of black silicone to seal it completely,or just fill the channel with black silicone.

The reason is that water runs down the glass and enters the channel in the corners, then can only escape by rusting it's way out....

You don't need to colour code the skirts - Black is fine.

15" BBS are readily available and will ALWAYS be cool.

Headlining is a big job to do properly - the board has to come out - thats the easy bit - getting all the old adhesive off and new material glued on so it won't come off again and look factory and then getting it back in is the hard bit  If you can get the board out in one piece find a local trimmer to re-do it.

You just need to find some front sports seats in grey cloth from a facelift car - they come up for sale regularly but you might need to get the bolster repaired where they always wear through. I paid about £65 for mine but had to pay a lot more than that to get the drivers one properly repaired. Looks great now and definately worth it though

For the bodywork waxoyl is your friend :D

That is excellent, because the back seats have never been touched and look like they were fitted yesterday but the front seats let the car down. And if I do find one with full interior just sell the other bits 8)

Ah that is clever! never thought of that, will have to do that tomorrow. I think i'll go with the first option because knowing me I'll bugger it up and leave a gap for water to congregate and rust the whole damn thing.

I think it is time to get saving, deffently love some 15'' BBS in black but how it would look on the car is something to think about might do a photoshop image beforehand.

Yeah it looks a big job and now its getting quite disgusting with strands of hair stringing around stuck to the board. 8O Is there any tutorials how to get the board out and in for a touring? because I seen one for the saloon but not for the touring.

Ah haha yeah I think seats are a big part of a car's looks and this is a top priority on a long, long, long list of what I want to do to my Touring :P

Lots of marks and lots of chips so I might T-cut then waxol the hidden bits and keep an eye on the showing bits.

The board is held in place by a lot of what you can see ( grab handles, sun visors, pillar trims ) and some stuff you can't - there are 4 screws around the sunroof aperture which need removal of some of the sunroof trim to get at them, and some clips right at the back by the tailgate - there are also a couple of other locating lugs near the back.

You need to start at the front of the car by removing the sunvisors and work your way backwards, and then once everything is undone remove the board out of the tailgate aperture.

There are various threads with tips for this if you do a search

Lowered a touch with SE skirts as above and that'll look spot on. Good find :)
