Not taken that way at all my friend, i like constructive conversation - things wouldn't be done properly without it! I was thinking that i need to set the welder up a bit better anyway to be honest. I'd like to try a bit more welding on the car. Possibly front scuttle this weekend weather permitting... As you can see in an earlier picture on the thread, its full of gobbo! So i'll alter the settings and see if that pigeon can stop sh1tting in/on my car! (*cuckoo-cuckoo*)

Cheers jhonno :cheers:

This is where i lie right now, a bit of a road trip today to drop off the old 14 bbs's with their new owner. Then took a trip to meet e30topless (Steve) and met the diddler (Paul) there too. I took my blue carpet to Steve and swapped it for a grey one to match the new interior and Steve fancied the blue one for a future project (potentially) here are more photo's of what i've been up to this weekend...

Have you got rid of one of the studs that holds the glovebox hinge in place when you patched it ?

As I need to patch mine in the same place be good to see how you resolve this or whether the remaining stud is sufficient to hold the hinge on its own ( doubtful :cry: )

I have done this in the past. Drill a hole in your repair panel where you want the stud. Screw a bolt/screw into it then weld the thread to the repair panel cut the head off the bolt/screw (this could be done before you screw it in) and you have a new stud.

edit: Do this before you weld the panel into the car!

I think you are right, in an ideal world before it goes into the car but because there is a "gap" to be breached you can get away with doing it afterwards. I have the same issue on my project car, I am sure this stud is part of the rot trap because its always gone if your E30 has grot in this area!

Good work on the project, get some pics up of the interior now the carpet is in mate 8)

Yea too right, the glove box bracket is a sore subject! I'll fabricate something into there just you wait and see! Top advice from 'rrs' though, and reflecting back I should of probably done just that. But I didn't and that glove box is the only part of my interior missing at the moment (and the underdash panel below the steering wheel because I have no clips for it). Its almost guaranteed it wont hold without that holding it.

Thanks for all the comments and feedback guys!

@ Duke : Yea i'll get some pics up - but i'm away for a week or so... leaving me no real chance to show the interior transformation properly i can add 2 quick snaps of it for now though but i'll do it tomorrow

Right, finally starting the epic head gasket on this turd and decided that the engine needs a properly good freshen up on the outside. Only started the basics...

Bought my:

head set
spark plugs
cam kit
oil filter
head bolts

to get me going for now.

Stripped the rocker, inlet and head off so far and rilled out a couple of threads due to a couple of snaps :D and (touch wood) the head doesn't seem to be cracked!!

Photo's to be added in around 15 mins.....

Also lowered the car (back end only so far)

I'm dreading doing this.

Did you undo the exhaust underneath and pull the head off with the exhaust manifold attached or undo the manifold ?

Good work :D

Lol not fun mate! I did remove the manifold before removing the head. Unfortunately 4 bolts were snapped in the process of removing the head but luckily all have been drilled out and all threads are fine 8O worrying times when they snapped but happy enough to see them sorted!

Thanks Rob, its getting there! One day it might see the road! :roll:

Well heres a few photos of recent ongoings last night!

Some of the eagle eyed motoring enthusiasts may spot the rs1600i engine in cling film

But F that - the head getting stripped is more important!

Other eagle eyed enthusiasts may spot the pulley has lost its internal plastic cover (It was damaged) So i'm going to replace the pulley

Anyway:

Didn't have much joy with anything really, G101 didn't tickle it, brake cleaner got a bit of the dirty bits clean and I even tried wheel acid! That was pretty good at taking off the remainder, I sanded the whole lot up to as good as I could. Degreased them and then painted them up and sanded the 'BMW' and strips back through. Just need to use my peek metal polish on it and jobs a gooden I should think! I baked mine dry in the spraybooth. All its cost me is my very high temperature wrinkle paint for £10. But its up to you what finish you would prefer. Just let me know Rob, always happy to help mate

I have plans to silver up the air box too. Easy task:

Mask up the whole thing, sand the masking tape to reveal the strips and BMW emblem, and paint them with silver paint. Thats next on the agenda!

So, about that airbox idea I had :mad: :

Firstly mask it all up and use a d.a to unmask the raised areas;

Image

Then silver it up;

Demask and....tadaaaaa;

A full set of black gear with silver BMW emblems and slats.

Piece of cake - now time for :beer:

Looks good and matches the inlet & rocker cover :cool:

Have you had the injectors refurbed whilst the inlet is off the car ?
