M20 engine?
If you are happy with the clearances,I like mine a little wide, the ticking could just be the injectors....

Are refurbed injectors still likely to tick?

They all tick!
On M50,the things have a cover over them,so you do not hear them tick!

Easy to check! Injectors stop ticking instantly when the electricity is turned off. Tappets continue to tick as the engine runs down.
Yea...same thing with me. Did the clearances and im now turning the music up so i dont hear the injectors. lol, just one of those things eh. When you're at 3k+ with your boot in...its not so noticable either...so just 'enjoy' yourself more
