the engine itself was built for me for another project and was left sitting in my garage. the original 325 engine blew up so i put the two together. as i already owned the engine, gearbox, ecu, intercooler etc i only had to pay the labour charges for fitting ,which was Ԛ£2600. if you had to pay the cost of the engine and all ancillaries you would have been looking at a total of around Ԛ£6500.the cosworth engine itself is relatively simple and i think any jap engines would be more problematic as they are more complex with all the electronics involved.im also not as blinkered as bmwbmw as to think bmw is the best ever and nothing else is as good, but thats his opinion
ive been at a passionford meet already and my car had the biggest crowd around it.even though they drive fords they are a friendly bunch of guys and my car went down well
for 1 the cosworth engine is a ford engine pinto bottom end with twin cam top , how the hell can you say its not a fordOllieB wrote:A Transit is a 'Van', not an estate. Also, I would argue that it is strictly speaking, a Cosworth engine, and not a Ford one.....bmwbmw wrote:if you are going to put a ford engine in a estate , you might aswell have bought a transt, its the right colour for it , if the engine is the heart of the car , that means this is no longer a bmw

But Cosworth developed it off a Ford engine, Ford spent millions developing the engine...... Just my thought!!OllieB wrote:A Transit is a 'Van', not an estate. Was it not: Cosworth developed the engine for Ford. Ford then mass produce the engine, its a Ford engine.
Still looks shweet in there, cant argue with that....

theres no debate about it, its a ford engine with a cosworth developed twin cam head ,built specifically for motorsport use but detuned to be used in road cars to comply with the regs at the time, im not bothered thats its a ford engine, all that concerns me is that is undenyably one of the most iconic engines of our time and its fast as fcuk

This was a race prep'ed car. I said the same thing to him, but it was all alloy block or something like that, not much heavier than the S14. The engine ( V8 ) did not look very tall.fuzzy wrote:that was a convertion that was mentioned to me but various 'specialists' warned against as it was such a heavy engine it would seriously fcuk up the handling.
Im guessing you're talking about Waynes car. With the V8.

If memory serves, he bought it in a terrible state years ago. After the S14 gave up he ran an Alloy 350bhp (ish) Range Rover V8, before doing a complete rebuild as it stands today.

great job
its the conversion i have wanted to do for 3 years now
quick question
are you still running on the standard rear diff? LSD.
That V8 M3 looks the business see that featured in PPC mag
LS1 engine is a peach and actually very light for a V8 as its a all alloy version

hi mate, i assume you meen me and not the v8? if so then yes iam still running the standard lsd, im not sure of the ratio as i havent looked at the tag, but i have a spare 3.64 in my garage just in case. i dont think there will be any problems as they are built to handle a 6 pot torquey engine
WOW! That is a real engineering maserpiece, Cossy Engine in a BMW chassis. In some ways I am a bit curious as to why use a cosy turbo engine where there are possibly easier just as fun conversions... but in some ways, that makes it all the much better that you have gone for something unconventional and new. Guessing by the black lines (that arent your of course) in the photo that the car pulls has pleanty of torque with the new engine in. Would love to see any video footage of the car, just to hear what it sounds like if nothing else!!
the be all and end all of the post... fantastic conversion, very novel - hope to see it in the flesh one day.. and I hope you having fun racing boy racers in fords... could proove alot of fun explaining to them why and how you pissed on them from a great height.

i am guessing it breaks traction before it breaks the diff then
you gonna get it up the 1/4 mile and get some performance figures? could be the fastest Zone member perhaps
