I've just picked up a new panel to go under the steering wheel, and there is a cutout for the headlight adjuster, but there is no provision made for the OBC gong, is this normal and I have to cut it out myself or have I got the wrong part again?!!

thanks

William,

Have you had a close look on the inside of the panel ? It's possible that the hole is already marked or partially cut already.

It's probable that you have the correct part, but the OBC was optional, so the hole would normally only be added if the OBC is fitted.

Cheers,

Ian.

Thanks Ian, yeah the wadding/foam stuff is scored with the shape of the gong, but I haven't actually taken it off to see if the actual panel is scored on the inside, its not scored on the outside though. Glad to hear that's normal, should I use a stanley knife to cut the panel or do I need a saw?

thanks again

William,

I think a good sharp stanley knife should do it. May be worth running a small drill through the 4 corners before you cut to help stop you going too far.

William, when you ordered the panel, did they supply it on your chassis number, or did they just ask what car and took a guess when ordering?

They should have asked if your car had an OBC, headligh adjust or airbag IIRC, you would have had the correct panel (with cutout) then.

If they supplied it on your chassis number, then it maybe as Ian says the OBC was fitted at a later date.

Hi Simon, it was done on the chassis number but even then they asked me whether I had headlight aim control or not, so I don't quite know why they bothered being specific about the chassis number?? The cutout is scored so I will try and see where we get to!!

thanks

headlight adjusting control?

What's this, aside from the obvious.......

is it electric or pulley based?

does anyone have a pic of the control in the dash?

It adjusts the beam up and down to avoid dazling oncoming traffic to counter different weights in the car, was a totally useless hydraulic system, that very rarely works!

I bought a new one of these panels and was disappointed with its quality and finish and it isn't quite shaped correctly to fit the fourth fixing on the underside of steering column.... winge ... winge....

i bought a new one from the dealers about 2 months ago.asked if i had obc or headlamp aim and the part arrived with the appropriate amount of holes, didnt have a problem with the fit though

not exactly the end of the world having to cut out holes in e30 parts as most are scored or marked, even the hole in the bulkhead for the aircon pipes is pre cut and just needs popping out.cant get over how well thought out these cars were
No longer self employed but still available for welding duties.
