Performance stats are 0-60 in 6.6 and a top speed of 151 mph.
Its no slouch but not a rocket ship either but usefully quicker than a C2 2.7.

Indeed it is, complete with indigo discomfort velourz !
That is why it festered for so long up my passage , there was no way I could serve it for proper money with the hateful indigo velourz.
I had (now Barry has) a really nice black buffalo leather memory sport trim complete to fit but the thought of dash and carpet changes and the possibility of a certain sad aussie cn ut buying it and me having to then retrofit a/c mean't it was ignored
At least it has now gone to a good home and will undoubtably be on the recieving end of some epic paedoing !

Looks like the previous was in denial about the interior colours and traded the Shell drivers points card in for pedal power

Nice Alpina.. Barry.
Obviously that was dragged from the darkest depths of Pete's passage.. Good to see it had survived so well! That's 1 tank of fuel for his new Suburban paid for.

Well i didnt want it to get a fast car, if i did want a faster car then as you say a £500 540i would have done the trick but this turd has the makings of a nice interesting car which will have adequate performance.Andyboy wrote:Or a £500 540i.Simon13 wrote:Theres no way that would waste a 2.7fat old barge. Good on you for rescueing it, dude.
I can't understand why people leave cars like this lying about for years, particularly someone with mechanical skills like Pete.

Soni, the E46 was part of the deal and either E34/E39 540i's can be had for £500 if you look hard enough. They will be rubbish though!pony wrote:Barry what happened to the E46 328Ci?bss325i wrote:Well i didnt want it to get a fast car, if i did want a faster car then as you say a £500 540i would have done the trick but this turd has the makings of a nice interesting car which will have adequate performance.Andyboy wrote: Or a £500 540i.

Lol! The mrs would have had something to say no doubt! Thanks again Lee!
Well crisis over. A replacement rad, new fan shroud, a new viscous and belt, fresh coolant and we are back in business!
Here is a pic from yesterday.

Bit better eh?

It sure does!pony wrote:Ah nice bet it stands out at the BMW Dealer workshop from all the other regular BMWs.

So today was a day of fettling as i have replaced my high mileage but uber reliable E46 with this as a daily
I had all ready been through the car before it was MOT'd and had a mental note of what needed doing before it could be pressed into regular service but i wrote down a list over the last week of jobs and listed them in order of priority.
Today i managed to do the following,
Inspection 2 which included all the filters (apart from the air as its a K&N panel filter) and NGK BPR6ES spark plugs
auto trans filter and fluid change
Brake fluid change
Coolant change
Waxoiling various places
Whilst doing the valve clearances i found a pleasant surprise!
Inside the head is very clean so it looks like it had been apart not long before it was laid up.........

........and this also was a nice surprise!
Only a schrick camshaft and all new Febi bilstein rockers!
My guess is that the original cam was worn so instead of a £1000 for an Alpina cam who ever had the car went for the schrick at £400 but despite being cheaper is a better cam.
Despite googling the number from the cam i cant find out what spec it is and i cant down load the schrick catalogue from their site. Anyone have any idea which one it is?
The number is 1705 776

After all that was done i cleaned up the engine bay, door and boot shuts as these were all grimy and full of webs, leaves and general debris. Forgot to take a before pic of the bay but its come up a lot better, need to get an inlet and cam cover painted up in the correct dark grey.
