You probably know more than me :D Think anywhere on mine it's cracked i'll strip back and etch prime and then go over with some new underseal/stone chip type stuff.

Since failing miserably to get the tank in i've not touched it, going to have a word with the old dear and see if i can take it down her's and put it in the garage there as it's a lot bigger and lighter. Simply no room in mine to start stripping out the ream beam. Sorted some rear arms to pick up this week, will reuse my beam, got some nice struts which i'll refurb and then got to get a new subframe to refurb.

I would mint it all up with degreaser and contemplate banging it all again with the stone guard on top of the old stuff to make sure theres enough on and then waxoyl the nail to get rot proofing to its optimum performance. Personal preference and ideas

Cool, will see what Ferg gets sorted first, should be easier chucking all our scrap together and get it done in one hit.

Well, it looks like this car my have just got the better of me. I like a challenge, but the problem I have found is that spare time with a new family and a full time demanding job along with every spare day I get it usually pissing it down I may have to call it a day.

I don’t want to give up on it for sure, but after the horrors found today I think it is just gonna take me about 3 years to get it right (at the current rate of progress). I can’t really afford to spend loads of money on repair panels and in all honesty I need a compressor with an air-saw which in itself will cost a fair bit. Not to mention my totally novice welding and metal fabrication skills.

I would like some opinions please, good or bad, but before you say its a w4nk colour etc etc, I know that but that isn’t the reason I will end this project.
I will let the pics do the talking:

What I already knew I would have to weld
Drivers side footwell:

Battery tray (rattle canned to slow the rain killing it any more)

New Horrors
I knew the rear arches would want a bit of attention but removal of the rear bumper today made a bad situation a whole lot worse!!!!

Bugger.

Those arches are in a similar state to my bronzit turd - which ultimately was why I decided to bin it.

Look familiar ? :

You're talking probably min £400 a side to have them done properly

How much does it owe you ?

Can you get your money back by fragging it and keep any morsels to put into a better shell ?

Not that finding a better shell will be easy :o:

It doesn't owe me that much, the bits I have bought I can use on my IS.

Good shells are rare, my IS needs work too though I could probably get it through an MOT with the front brakes renewed

I just don't know lol

Yeah bronzit looked like this, £400 a side is just too much money and I am not confident I can repair them myself

Either use it to practice your welding skills or frag it/weigh it in to get your dough back and find another one

Tourings are supposed to be more rust resistant  :chuckle:

Might just have a frag fest, as I have pretty much everything for this car, it is just the usual bodywork story

Exactly the discussion me and Ferg had... could you dare risk trying to better the shell (but its still going to cost to find a good one!) His red turd could receive some parts donated from the chav and theres plenty of frag and morsels that are sellable/keepable from the whole project.

Devastating really that theres more unmasked now but what to do?! You've come this far and feel some progress is made and then you discover nearly 30 years is really enough the shell could manage. I'd love to say don't give up - but reality has to step in sometimes doesn't it?

It was the knot brush on the angle grinder that made it all disapper!

Yep, think it is time to weigh it.

By the time i would be done with it could be worth the 24v convert and that, and seeing as its you - you could have it for an ultra reasonable price, just give me what it owes me - and its yours (But i'll get it painted first) As part of a good willy gesture for all your help!

Maybe.... but I don't think it will be worth putting 24 valves into that, it's nice as it is.

Iceox will be looking for the boot section with number plate lights. Someone will be after the front battery tray section by the look of things.

Sorry to hear this though, man. I think you've made the right decision with this car, it's still a shame with the arches but nothing you couldn't handle given the previous work.

Cheers Chris, It was just going to be far too much for me, with a new family etc and I know it sounds lame but every time I went to work on the car this "summer" it was raining (well it felt like that). The rear arch discovery was the straw that broke the camels back.

As for the boot section, I will be taking that myself (sorry iceox) my IS has quite a crusty boot seal and I will be having that to graft in.

Battery tray may be up for grabs, depends also how bad my other car is as it looked a little crusty.

Sad times, RIP.
