Hi Folks as above realy . Just fitted some new engine mounts from ecp and have noticed now that there is a strange vibration through the bulkhead/transmission tunnel. this while the car is on idle and when driving, in fact when driving its worst. I have checked that there is nothing touching the body and have ensured all bolts are tight... I measured the new mounts against the old ones. the new ones are 48mil and the old ones are 44mil, so would I be right in thinking the old ones have relaxed 4 Mil or is it posible ecp have supplied me the wrong mounts ? after fitting the new mounts I also noticed that on the top of the old one there was a washer that went between the top of the mount and the bottom of the arm, when fitting the new mounts I didnt fit this washer :? could this be causing me problems ???

Any help apperciated

Ta

To eliminate them being the wrong part - can you say what the part number is from your receipt?

You got them the right way up with the little lug going into the slot?

Strange really isn't it?

Yep the right way up lug facing down in the hole, is it normal for the new ones to be 4-5 mil taller in size ? It is strange as when I drove the car with them broken there was no vibration and once replaced I have problems , at first I though maybe its because there new and slid buts its deff not right.the only other thing I can think off is I did at one point lift the car on the ramp with no engine mounts on and also lifted the engine right up as far as it would go to a point where the body started to lift slightly on the gearbox but there dosnt seem to be anything toucthing to cause a vibration . :?

Ah, so maybe it's nothing to do with the engine mountings and it's something like the propshaft doughnut.

All the couplings/donuts were replaced a few months ago and looked good today and the vibrations are coming from the front for sure :?

This happened to my car. They fitted none BMW mounts which caused a vibration all the way though the car.. took it back and then then fitted gen BMW mounts. Fixed the issue.

I fitted non gen ones and they are fine. I wouldn't assume gen ones will fix it unless there is something actually wrong with the ones you fitted? More likely something somewhere is touching, could even be right back in the tunnel and transmitting it forward.

I think my plan of action is to buy some original mounts along with double checking nothing is toutching the body, engine or gearbox.....
