hi guys,

today i replaced my auto box for another auto unit! my e30 is a 320i. its a non-switchable auto box!

the problem is now, it will only start in park and neutral, which is normal, however when i shift into gears, the engine revs up propa, but i cannot get it to engage with gearbox to then engage to prop shaft!

what could be the problem?

Lack of fluid? Linkage incorrectly or not attached? You bought a second faulty transmission?

fluid is deffinelty fine! i cleaned it all out again today, used air compressor and cleaned through rad hoses too, which flushed everythng out!

could it be that the torque converter has slipped of slightly and not engaging witht the shafts? but wot i don't understand is it spins fine with flywheel, but will not go through gears!!!

The torque converter drives a pump that circulates the fluid. When installing an automatic, the torque converter should be pushed fully into the bellhousing while you spin it prior to installation. Then bolt up the trans to the engine, then pull the torque converter forward and attach the bolts to the flywheel.
