:?

For a while now, either when launching the car hard, or when accelarating out of a tight corner, there is a thudding noise coming from under the middle console towards the back. It is also more prominent if there are more people (more weight) in the car.

I am sure this is my prop shaft as the center bearing has now snapped on the outer rim! This was a 6 month old centre bearing too.

Any ideas on how this can happen? I have new subframe bushes and the diff mount it very solid, gearbox mounts are all good too.

Im thinking I might need a new prop shaft, not sure though. I covnerted the car from an Auto to a manual 2 yrs ago, its running a 323i gearbox and propshaft. The engine is a 325i.

its important to make sure that the prop and gbox are in the centre of the tunnel, misalignment can cause premature bearing and rubber wear i think.

the prop shouldnt need changing, unless the UJs are messed up.

I had this initially, which then became a bit of a vibration.

When I finally got it sorted, turned out the propshaft bearing ( round doughnut bit) had gone, and also the gearbox mounts.

Replaced them, along with a couple of other bits (can't remember, but think the exhaust hangers or clips or something was also partly to blame) and it was sorted :thumb:
