Is there a definative guide to which engines had Nikasil?

The car in question is an e39 528i 1998 touring??


Any ideas, either a way of checking online or some sort of guide?
And or ways of checking physically? (signs to look out for).


I am guessing poor idle, difficult to cold start and smoke maybe

Generally any Nikasil engine that has lasted this long and is running without issues should be OK.

Loads of them had the blocks replaced anyway.
