Did you pre-book the first MOT??adit wrote:had a chance to have a look at the convertible the other day and yes, it was a prop problem.
i jacked her up, removed the complete exhaust and heat shields and started at the front. all seemed ok there, then the centre support/bearing, all seemed ok, then the prop to diff flange....where's my nuts?? i just can't belieeeeve it. is nothing safe? why would anyone would steal four prop nuts.
as if...what a silly thing to sayZ3I wrote:Might be just a bolt or 2 left undone..prop shaft..easily missed??
i told that Gaszman to make sure they were done up nice and tight!![]()

anyway, replaced the nuts (which someone DEFINITELY MUST have stolen) and back on with the heat shields and exhaust and fired her up.
TPS jumped in the passenger seat and we crawled out of my driveway and pootled off down the road at speeds up to 30mph. all seemed ok so far...sod it, lets have a blast down the motorway![]()
got on the slip road and foot down. heeeere we go, hold on Phil![]()
poweeerrr! my god, this 2.7 shifts. it feels sooo much quicker than my trusty old four-pot touring. sweet as a nut![]()
Mr.MOT man, i'm coming to see you this week
Could have been the tester who popped round the previous night, removed the nuts?
"going to have to fail you on prop and diff problems mate. Can help you out with new ones, £400 fitted in 20 mins?"
Scams like that all too common in the motor trade..
Selection of BMW hardtops available, please ask!
wow, was this a year ago?
Latest: i didnt get time to pre-MOT her so just went straight for the MOT - Failed:
W/Washers not working
No dipped beam
Ball joint excessive play
Exhaust clamp missing
Emissions excessive
Uneven front braking
O/S/F brake binding
not too bad at all really, considering it was last MOTd 7-8 or so years ago.
so:
changed the w/w motor
changed dipped beam bulbs and fuses
replaced o/s wishbone with a known good s/h one
found exhaust clamp in the boot
removed o/s/f caliper and pads, pumped the pedal and pushed the piston back in a few times and cleaned and soaked in WD40 until it freed up...then...
Re-test:
adjusted the emissions whilst the probe was up her pipe
down to the correct level (was running very rich) and Hey Presto! a pass
so, all hands on deck before work tomorrow to get her ready-ish for Cranleigh on Sunday. should be topless weather hopefully :

and another thing....when i phoned the insurance company to advise of a vehicle change from my 318i Touring to the 2.7 convertible, they said i would be due a refund of £2.17
the lad in the local branch forgot to charge me the £25 "admin fee", so i escaped asap without my refund
(damn, that's a couple of coffees at Cranleigh tomorrow

it's taxed, MOTd, and been on show, so on-the-road is major progress imo
next up, get the Sport finished, oh, and the Baur, oh, and the Touring, oh, nearly forgot, and the M3
meaning?
bathroom suite? dining suite? three piece suite?

That creme will be the traditional gentlemans relish then, that car interiors have been treated with since the early days of motoring??adit wrote:yes! now where did i put that creme, i feel like having a rub tonightZ3I wrote:Next, the leathers!

well she's back on the road again. brought her out of the garage (cheers Phil) approximately three weeks ago (so lovely to drive again). have had the roof down about three times
still need to sort the front and rear spoilers, a couple of small areas of paintwork, treat all the leather bits (seats, centre consoles, door and rear cards), fit the maplight mirror...etc. etc...
put her in for the MOT a couple of weeks ago...FAILED
horn not working
reconnected it
...works! MOTd for another year

saw this in the flesh today, a lovely car with some really nice extra bits. The car also has the biggest spare parts depot ever seen and a good owner, thanks for the bit today Adi.
cheers Jim, good to meet you at last.
and as guessed, i found those three splash guards after you left, in the "Exterior Trim department - Wheel Arch" section

Looks lovely Adi. Is it a manual or electric roof? How about checking and responding to my PM?
