performance mods for my m42

can any one offer some suggestions for the best sort of performance mods to put on the m42 engine other than turbo and superchargers and stuff isit really worth putting a cool air induction kit on it all stuff like that and wil re-profiled cams from piper make that much of a diffeerence? any help appreciated cheers tony

Not sure but a lightened M20 one might fit?
If not Kedge told me today that he once had a proper Ally one fitted to his old IS that made an enormous difference to performance (as flywheel mods go)

They're a LOT of money, you'll be lucky to fine one for anything near £500. Only worth buying if you're racing and are restricted on engine mods, plus having a super light flywheel will make hill starts and town driving a bastard.
Cams and a mapped ECU to match will give you a few HP but again looking at spending some reasonable cash.
Best bet is a performance clutch and skimming some material off of the M42 fly wheel. Then a full service, some recon injectors (21 year old ones will be clogged up), ecu chip; lots of little not hugely expensive things to add up to a something.

Lightened M20 flywheel seems to be the most popular way to go, need to change a few other things to get it to fit though, starter etc.
The ally flywheel was expensive but with the deal i got with a free clutch and release bearing didn't workout too bad, was still easy to drive as well, mine was used as a daily (still is by the current owner and who i sold it to).

ahh cheers mate iv advanced my cam timing because aparantly that gives a bit better performance to have the original cams reground by piper was only around 150 pounds so not to bad but just was wondering isit 150 well spent or will it be not noticable lol will a performance clutch make much difference? and in regards to the injectors is there performance ones i can buy? thanks for the response guys

No point in a performance clutch, you need to be running high power figures before having to consider anything like that.
