pagid pads
Moderator: martauto
anyone any experience of PAGID pads. i have been advised they are very disc friendly and worth the extra cost. I hae been told to be careful with the Ferodo DS2500/300 range and the mintex 1144/55 as they eat discs ??
opinions please...
cheers

All depends on what you are using the car for. I have a Hartge H27 which I use a fair bit on the track and over the last 18 months have used all sorts of combinations. The Pagid Pads are ok for fast road and light track use but they wear fast on the track and do not give the stopping, at least in a car as heavy as mine.
The best combination I have found are Mintex 1155 with Zimmerman Discs. They do eat up the discs eventually but at least the Zimmermans are cheap and therefore it balances out.
If you have an M3 then they do a Pagid Blue which are surposed to be very good although I have not tried these.
A slightly cheaper way to do it would be to put Pagid Fast Road in the rear and Mintex 1155 in the front with Zimmerman discs all round.

There are Pagids and there are Pagids!
I imagine Jonathan is talking about their RS pads as opposed to the fast road stuff.
You can't get Pagid RS-14 (blue) for the E30 but RS-19 or the new RSS-29 (yellow) are available. These are an endurance pad and some Milltek cars run them as they'll last a whole season.
To my mind, there's no point spending more than Ԛ£100 on pads just to be kind to the discs as the discs much cheaper.

i have an E30 325 but am running M3 discs. i need to get the balance between cost of pads and cost of discs. the pagid blue did seem very expensive. like you say - cheaper to wear out the discs !!

I'm running the Ferrodo DS3000's on my Milltek racer, cost me almost exactly Ԛ£100 for the front pair (running standard drums on the rear).
Circuit Supplies
Tel: 01525 385888
Front pad: SCP303R
Ԛ£100.69
Although I changed the pads halfway through the season it was only because I had a warped disk so wanted to keep them matched, pretty sure they'd have just about made a whole seasons racing otherwise.

We have used the pagid's but found the Mintex better, 1166's will be fine mate or if you want to push the boat out F4r's which we used all season but they're not cheap and only lasted us 3 races / on normal circuits and 1 practice session at Oulton! They're about Ԛ£120 / set but really do give great bite. Have a look at Performace friction as well, very good quality pads
please contact admin with regard to sig
I have the rs4-2 pads in my brake set up. I have done 3 full track days and one evening andi am heavy on my braking. The pads have worn no more than 3mm and the discks less than 1mm.
Bear in mind i have a bbk prodrive alcon set up with 325mm discs on my track M3

had a very interesting conversation with EARS motorsport today. they recommended EBC red stuff (they say the new ones just out are really good , they admit the old ones were crap !) at about Ԛ£80 a set they said they represented good value and wee very progressive wheras the mintex and ferrodo can be very agressive (all or nothing). they also recommended that for track day use there is not much point worry about the rears as they will not have mcuh work to do, especially as the car is stripped so there is very little weight at the back. they suggested that i would get better brake balance by doing this as often people have too much braking at the back which upsets the balance. all sounds very logical to me - what do you think ??

Pagid Fast Road squeels a lot cold&hot on ATE Power disc.....does not have the bite I want ( but perhaps that on my car ) & emits a fair amount of dust.

I have Pagid fast road pads and ATE power discs on my 2.7 and find that they are great even when cold.
When they warm up they can squeel a little but it's not very noticable.
They performed faultlessly when I went round the Nurburgring this summer and I managed some hot laps
I'd also recommend braided brake lines to improve pedal feedback.
Cheers,
Iain T

The issue is not in their life span, but how well they hold up against the heat!m-dtech wrote:ATE power discs and Ԛ£6 pads from euro.
For all the hassle in changing the pads cost peanuts.
Although 1 set per track visit

They might be holding up against the heat the way he drives.....!......and some more (!).....ok one more....... (!)Demlotcrew wrote:The issue is not in their life span, but how well they hold up against the heat!m-dtech wrote:ATE power discs and Ԛ£6 pads from euro.

Mintex 1166 / 1177 & F1/4r's are superb, Performance Friction 01's are also superb, i'd stick with one of these. I ran standard discs with 1155's and it was fine, anything above this is worthless unless you upgrade the discs / calipers

Taffy, how can you run m3 disks on a 325? this is a 5 hub disk; and what calipers do you use? nikos
Been watching this post with interest as I'm about to upgrade standard brakes on my 325 (to cope with occasional 50bhp NOS surges). What would you guys recommend for discs and pads, and should I also upgrade the calipers and brake lines?

Pagid 'Fast Road' pads are very good if your car is primarily used on the road. They are certainly worth the extra over standard pads.
If you regularly visit the track, then there are better options, but people have different views on what's good or not.
In general, Pagid pads are very good.
Ian.

If it aint broke - Modify it...
I have used piles of pads for road/track use. Here's a quick summary of my experiences, car is a track orientated e30 M3.
EBC Greenstuff - Nasty. Don't stop very well and have an appetite for disks.
Textar Std Pads - Road use only, limited performance use.
Ferodo DS2500 - Nice pad, v good stopping power, average wear on disks.(was my favourite pad with stock brakes)
Ferodo DS3000 - Very stoppy pad, harsh on disks and paintwork/wheels get eaten by the dust.
Mintex F4R - Nearly as good a stopper as the DS3000, expensive, but not too harsh on disks.
Mintex 1155 - Bit less stoppy than the DS2500, not harsh on disks - good rear pad.
Pagid Blue - Current pad, coupled to AP 4 pots. Very nice, stop better than the car ever did, no fade, no overheating, virtually no wear on pads or disks. Have been told that these should last at least a year of racing, so for track day use they should last ages. Quite expensive. Quite dusty.
