I have owned a few Yanks over the years and I love them (it is an Illness)

my first one was a cadillac 79 deville, similar to this,
Image

next was a 87 Oldsmobile Delta 88 just like this turd,

Image

and an early Lebaron that was a complete piece of shit ! :o: mine was like this but maroon/burgandy, check out that wood !
Image

a few years later and despite todays petrol prices I still want to own another, i am on the lookout !

a rusty old turd with a greedy V8 ? yes please !

are there any zoners out there that own a yank ?

I have had loads and used to horse trade quite a bit with them. I don't do much nowadays but I still have a GMC Typhoon, a V10 Dodge Ram dually and 3 Grand Wagoneers ! :)

I have literally just come back from rescuing this big camel ! :D

I like them but have never been interested enough to own one.

One of my mates has a big interest in these turds and has these models ( not these actual cars - pics just pinched from photobucket )

Image
Lincoln - long term project - his is bright Yellow

Image
El Camino - his is green on Magslots  - V8 Monster 7 litre I think )

Image
And uses one of these turds as a daily driver - LHD, 3.0 Auto straight 6, longitudinally mounted but Front wheel drive

He goes over to the states a couple of times a year and tours the scrapyards collecting parts and then ships them on a pallet back here.

I'll get some pics of the Lincoln and the pickup next time I see him - the pickup is particularly cool 8)

This one in fact..

Not my old man.. One of the owners after him. Seems the car is long gone though, no longer on the DVLA system :(

Image

I'd love one, anything from 65-71.. Sometimes I wish I weren't tied up with the M3.. :)

Image

Or one of these..

Flicking through the For Sale section of Classic American is a secret fetish of mine.. :o: :)

Nah!! They are all fat blokes yanks (apert from the Mach 1).

If I HAD to have a car from the wrong side of the pond I'd have to build one of these. I've had a rod fetish ever since a kid when I waited every month to ride my Raleigh Chopper (mk1 no less  ) to the newsagents and collect my fresh copy of Custom Car. I stil watch Overhauling, American Hotrod (Boyd is sadly missed) etc.

I give you, a 32 Ford 3 window coupe.

Me too ! the custom car scene in the USA is fantastic, all we have here in the UK is coonts on barryboys and pimp my ride ? thank god the chop shop was blown away !

the Mach 1 is also a fav as well as the Transam, sadly neither are below 10k for a good one :(

I am thinking of selling some of my un-used turds and blowing a fair old wedge on a decent 60's, 70's Yank !

This 29 Ford Model A Delivery van belongs to an old mate of mine, should be out at the drag strip this weekend, infact there are quite a few rods expected there this weekend, plus the final rounds of american superstock, should be a proper showing.

IMO there's nothing Cooler Boyd, A 56 Skyliner was way ahead of it's time using about 200 metres of wires and shit loads of switches to do this, No ECU's were needed ! a superb chariot to boot.. based on the Fairlane, later to be the Galaxy and then the crown victoria Awesome car,

50 something years later we now have convertible tin tops in the UK ?

as always the Yanks are way ahead of us !

Think I would prefer one in Brewster Green like Johnny Waynes. That white one is close to the one stolen by Lightfoot.

Yes to the Stang. That was the best year - forget all the 64-65 stuff, these 69-72 cars are where it's at.

No the the Vette. Shocking looking turd, up there with the original Thunderbird, Tri Chevys and that horrid Ford Fairlane thing as over rated hyped up scrap. The only vett to have is the 1963 split window Stingray Coupe.

The thing about Yanks is that you don't have to pay loads of money or suffer mid-late seventies rubbish. You can have a really good, classic Yank for not much money if you use your loaf. Late sixties four doors like Galaxies and Polaras are as cool as fcuk and not worth a lot - five grand will buy a superb '67 Pontiac Bonneville and late sixties/early seventies Lincolns and Cadillac four doors are not massively sought after. A 1970 Continental moredoor is a fine chariot as is a 69/70 Cadillac Calais.

I still can not get over how big these cars are. When I attend the barn meets here in Oxford , I am still stunned by these old cars. Also love Pete Mustang , they look great on the silver screen but even better in the flesh , and you can't beat the sound of a yank V8

I'd forgotten about that shape Andy. Your right. They are a gorgeous peice of art.

However, I've never realy "got" small coupes. Evem the Z3M Coupe I always think if your gonna have an impractical 2 seater, then you may as well have the convertible. Those thoughts were originally kicked off with the Triumph GT6 and the MGB GT. While pretty, they always seemed claustrophibic in comparison to there topless breathren.

Therefore, if it has the be a Stingray, then I'm afraid I'd take the "benders" route with this:
