here come some silly questions
so started wiring the conversion today. ive cut what i thought was the c101 plug from the engine side of the m40 loom, that is the e30 plug with the male connectors.
ive got the entire m52b28 engine loom sitting on my floor (from e36) and ive removed the auto gearbox plug and trimmed those wires.
working through the wiring chart sticky, ive started to notice some differences in the colours of the wires going into the pins, first on the e30 plug only, then some very different colours on the e36 plug.
this has confused me...
if in doubt start with the basics so...
to completely clarify, the left hand column represents the pin on the plug that i have removed from the m40?
the right hand yellow column represents the pin from the female part of the m52 plug, i am cutting this away from
im using that male e30 plug, and the main aim is im trying to wire the fusebox side of the loom (what i think is the female of the c101 plug) to plug into the male part of the 'c101' which is now soldered to the e36 loom correct?
so what does this 'goes to in e30' column mean? and why are there more than 25 pins none of the plugs in question have more than 25 pins!
i guess im being stupid but its a mindfuck when you thought you were right to start with!
any help very much appreciated!
cheers,
Matt

sorry dude, would love to help, but I know nothing about wiring and bought my way around any dramas like this by using one of Dan's plug & play looms

hola, the other wires are unnesscary but make sure you have the abs wire plumbed in which isn't on the table as otherwise you'll have the car stuck in limp mode like i did. pin 15 on the ecu plug if you're not sure it goes to pin 9 (from memory) and needs to attach to the abs pin on the e30 (c101) plug, which on mine was the blue/yellow wire but was described to me as a black/white wire. it's pin 14 on the e30 plug. btw the e36 plug is called an x20 and the e30 plug is a c101 if that ever confuses you as it did me till i found it out.

i'm not 100% sure if you need it or not if you don't have abs, but mine had it and after i removed it from my system totally to make room for the e36 airbox mine was stuck in limp mode until this was plugged in. it won't do any harm anyway i don't think if you wire it in anyway, so that'd be my best suggestion.
Cheers

Pin 20 on the C101 is switched power to the ABS ECU, the only wire you should be fitting to Pin 20 is a switched live, and thats only if you have a red or red/yellow on the car side

Pin 7 is the EWS signal wire, cut this out and you wont be going anywhere!
Pin 8 is power to ABS module, you might need this
Bin the rest

i have no abs on my car, so do i need to route pin 8 x20 to c101 pin 14?
is that the abs link that sends ecu into limp?

I'm non-abs and have never had any limp mode problems and I'm using the same Dan loom that I was using in my ABS equipped touring.

i think the issue is when the m52 ecu dosent get power on the abs pin it goes into limp?
unless im being a muppet, i havent seen a definitive answer yet as to what to do?!

If you have no ABS then cut that wire out and dont fit anything to Pin 20
