The only car I can really compare it to was one I was also doing a few jobs on at the time, it was a Rover P6 3500 and IMO a much nicer carAndyboy wrote:^^ Not really. The W108/109 arrived in 1965 (250S) when the world was driving Austin A110 Westminsters and whilst the 280S/SE is a bit of a gutless turd, the V8's (280SE 3.5) are pretty useful. The W111 Coupes are just art on wheels. A good one with proper tyres and tight suspension and steering is a nice driving car, but there are very few good ones. Most - such as the one you worked on - are shagged out 40 year old rubbish but you have to think of it as a 40 year old car no matter what. Ever driven a 105E Anglia?
The BMW E3 (2500/2800, 3.0 etc) did drive a lot better and the XJ6 had a better ride. the next generation S Class from 1972-79 was a very serious motor car.
