Thankfuck the V12 project's been binned - that was going to be a whole world of pain and $$$$$$$$$$.

Good newz on the Eibax though, they're so damned good.

Powerflex bush arrived for the diff today. The local dealers emailed me yesterday to say the rear cover plate seal and bolts had arrived and are ready for collection. Just hope the oil arrives tomorrow so I can crack on and get the bush replaced and see of it cures the rumbles I am feeling under acceleration.

Pulled the back cover off the diff just now, there's not really anything much wrong with the bush at all, but as it's off now I may aswell get it replaced.

So the question is, what is causing the vibration?

Answer, the front guibo is mullered with a big chunk missing 8O It was a brand new febi item which was used when this got built. So a new one of them to be ordered. Bugger I'm going to have to remove the exhaust and heat shield to get the centre bearing undone to drop the prop out the way enough :-x

Have you still got the M3 scorpion on it? The rear silencer on mine was very close to where the shock absorber bolts to the trailing arm, under acceleration when the back drops it touched the bolt and caused noise/vibration.
Took me ages to work it out :)

Edit: whats happening with the V12 now?

Yeah I'm still running the M3 scorpion, but got plenty of clearance on the shock mount/trailing arm.

The V12 is on the backburner again. If I come across a dogshit shell for buttons then it may happen, but I'm in Yank mode again :)

Right, after waiting forever for my LSD oil to turn up from Opie Oils (7 days) I got stuck in tonight sorting the rear end.

For any of you having problems tightening up the 4 diff mounting bolts, this is the sort of spanner you want
Image

Anyhoo, rear cover off, poly bush fits a piece of pish. Got a new seal for the speedo sensor, new rear cover gasket and 2 new rear bungs

Image

The new bungs are a much bigger size hex, old ones are 10mm hex, new ones are 14mm, they also have an integrated rubber seal, where as the ones I took out had a thin and very crusty steel crush washer
Image

Old oil (the wife will be chuffed when another sandwich box has gone missing)
Image

Guts
Image

I used some gasket sealant very lightly smeared on just to hold the gasket in place more than anything else, but also to make extra sure it didn't leak.
Image

Filling up, pain in the arse due to the spare wheel well wanting to get in on the action. Used a 1ltr bottle and emptied that whilst it had the arse in the air.
Image

Then dropped it onto the ground and filled until it started coming out the top hole. New bung in and bish bosh.

Went for a quick drive around the block, diff seems to be quieter when turning as it did grumble a little on slow tight turns so maybe it didn't have the correct oil in it.

Next job is to replace the front propshaft rubber coupling/ guibo. New one arrived today so I'll have the joy of pulling the exhaust & heat shield off to get the prop down at the front.

more excitement to come....

can't tell any difference yet mate as it shakes like a shitting dog as soon as you plant it due to the guibo being utterly mullered :)

Need it on the road though as I'm heading up to Billingham for a funeral on Tuesday, there's going to be some epic yank and hotrod action there 8)

The turn out will be epic won't it.

You sticking around up here?

Give me a shout when your on your way back if you have time. I would like to know how it went and have a catch up 8)

Yeah I should be able to pop in on the way back mate. Yeah, there will probably be a crazy turnout of people and some epic cars, I think there is plenty of burnout action planned from the big boys.

Just jacked the car to start on the guibo. Had a quick look at it and it is utterly destroyed, pics later.

On fitting the new one, do they fit a particular way around? I can't see any markings on the new one.

iirc there should be arrows on the new guibo and the arrows point to where the flange mounts.

Well that's that sorted, no more vibration under throttle load.

The old & the new

Bloody exhaust is blowing now where the front sleeves are, so going to pull that back off in a sec once this rain shower has passed and get the assembly paste out and hopefully it will seal properly.

Lots of VAG action this weekend, engine, box & subframe out the Golf, plenty of seized bolts and other dramas.

Regretting it already :D

2ltr 16v out of a MK3

Got loads of fannying about such as converting to PAS, fitting cable shift setup in place of the rod selector setup, change the pedal box for a corrado one with hydraulic clutch instead of cable.

Plus the usual hassles of rusted & seized bolts on a 23 year old turd.

Couple of crap pics from last weekend, basically donk out. Bought some bits this week and my brother is coming back up this weekend and we'll hopefully get the new donk in and I'll win the fight with getting the pedal box out which needs the steering column dropping down and there's spagetti everywhere around there.

My brother blagged another Evora from work, so we had a razz about in that for a bit too. It was a pre-production car/ development mule

Image

Another one makes it's way up the driveway which is so narrow it's gay, lost count of the amount of times I thought to myself "why am I doing this again?"

Donk out and general molestation going on underneath

Been fighting the Golf all weekend, man what a load of grief.

Grief I could have avoided if I'd just stuck with a cable operated clutch instead of going hydraulic, which has involved pulling the dash to bits, steering column out along with pedal box. Was going to drill the bulkhead for the master cylinder setup and then binned the idea, so now going to use a cable clutch setup using stuff from a diesel Seat, so a load of messing about for nowt. Sounds stupid typing this now, head up the arse moment.

Not got the donk in yet as spotted 2 exhaust manifold studs were snapped and the gasket is wankered, so got them to order and buy a stud extractor.

Then got the wiring to finish, oh the wiring :-x

Old donk was tired at the top end and the kjet never ran right.

This is on proper EFI with knock sensors etc so they run a lot better a lot of the time and generally see about 160bhp with the cat gone. The gearboxes are stronger too, ours had bearing noise and loads of slack in the diff

Been using the Chromie as a daily for the last 3 weeks whilst the Golf has been getting molested.

Tonight I have noticed the judder under acceleration and also engine braking has returned. Exact same symptoms I had when the last rubber coupling on the front of the prop had obliterated. I'm cursing myself now for buying a cheap GSF part (sure it was Q-Drive or some other gash make).

Think I'll just have to bite the bullet and get raped for the £70 or so it will probably cost from BMW. Not even done any 1/4 mile action with the current doughnut. The old one was a Febi one which put up a better fight than the current crap. I'll have to really behave myself for the next 2 days until I can get a new one.
