Passed my car driving test in 1968,motorbike test little over a year earlier.
'Available' cars to youngsters back then were things like mini's,E93A Ford Pop's,A35,Moggy Minor's and similar.When the back end went,it did so at a very modest speed,so a trip into the scenery usually only resulted in bent pride.
Modern cars go very much quicker,and are stuffed full of gadgets to make you feel safe....hence the resulting shunt is very costly,hence your insurance premiums are very much higher on a like for like basis compared to what I was paying as a young 'un.Seem to remember that my A35 cost £12 10s to insure,against a weekly wage of £18...
Youth is wasted on the young.
