how 2 remove heavy brake dust?

ive just got myself a set of mim 1900
3 wheels have cleaned up farily well but the fourth is coated in brake dust, ive been using COMMA Hyper Clean but on the heavy dust it's been no good.

thought i'd ask for some advice from others of what you'd recommend? i was going to go buy GUNK or TFR but don't want to wasting my time if they are not good enough?

I think your gonna need a proper acid wheel cleaner product to remove that. Get a long stiff bristle brush and a spray applicator and work it in. Keep it wet then rinse off with water.

wonder wheels is probably about the most acid based wheel cleaner i think i could buy locally?

just spoke to a mate & he recommended "oven cleaner" spray it on, work it in and rinse it off.

couple of coat's of cif oven cleaner and it's deffo shifting the dust.. look's like the dust has preserved the original coating

Be carefull with the oven cleaner, fooked a set of wheels with that before, dont leave it on too long. I have used the swarfega wheel cleaner before on similar conditon wheels and they came up really well. Took quiet a few attempts and several brushes. I cant remember the exact name of the stuff but it comes in a 5 litre bottle for about £17.

I see your in west of scotland, so there is a place in Kilmarnock between the old food giant supermaket and the galleon swimming pool that sell it.

Wonder wheels will shift any brakedust from wheels, and those MIM's will be ok after using it too.

thanks Rtaylor, i'm in West Dunbartonshire .. ive gave up trying to clean them .. just going to take them to get bead blasted some time next week that way i can polish the lip from the bare alloy & maybe spray the centres dark grey??

Could take 2 or 3 attempts though. just remember to rinse the wheel very very well between applications and do not use it if the lacquer is cracked etc as it will remove the lacquer too.

thanks but ive decided the best thing to do is have them chemical dipped & powder coated

cheers mate.. ive since had them powder coated as it turned out to be ground in metal brake dust shaving's
