hi guys,

My steering has started acting strange. When going round a sharp corner turning the steering wheel is fine but on returning to center there are two points where the steering wheel 'sticks''. Only for a moment then it 'releases' to return to center.

The 'indents' are worse to the left but also sligtly present to the right.

It's getting worse by the day, so would like to get this sorted.

Any ideas?

Martin,

I developed a split in one of the rubber boots that cover the ends of the steering rack. This allowed water in leading the rack to rust at a couple of points, which in turn caused symptoms just as you described. Cured completed by carefully rubbing the rust spots away. May not be worth checking the boots on your rack.

Alternatively if it's a power assisted rack check your fluid, if it's non-assisted it may be worth checking the lubrication under the boots.
