Guys,
I might be being a bit simple here but I'm trying to get the prop undone from the gearbox so I can get the two out together.
Now, I've managed to get the bolts turning but can't get access to the bloody nuts behind the "donut".
How the hell does one get something in there. It would be better if I could turn the shaft round so I can do them one by one whilst they're at the bottom...
What a way to spend a friday night!

You can get an open ended spanner on the nut from underneath - there isnt enough clearance to get a ring spanner on.
if you jack the back of the car up so that at least 1 wheel is off the ground ( assuming you dont have an LSD ) and leave the car in neutral with the handbrake off you can indeed turn the prop by hand to aid access.
Make sure of course that the car is on good axle stands/chocked etc etc before venturing underneath !

You can also slacken the big nut in the centre of the prop and pull the engine and box out with the front half still attatched to the box.
Not ideal doing it that way though as you will need loads of angle on the engine crane.

Ah!!! Excellent. Cheers guys.
The only problem I have is that I've got the back of the car up on ramps now, completely forgot about the gearbox/prop thing.
Do we think its safe to jack the rear up whilst one side is on a ramp?.... probably not!

When I did mine I did it on the floor of the garage and just jacked up one side of the car - an axle stand at each end and away you go

Place your jack under one trailing arm, lift just enough to clear the ramp and leave the ramp in place,if the jack slips, there's at least a sporting chance that the car will go back onto the ramp....this is how I deal with this issue.monkeyboy1979 wrote:Ah!!! Excellent. Cheers guys.

Good call to have the back of the car in the air, reduces the 'dangle angle' mentioned above!

Well what do you know, I figured it out myself!
Cheers dudes. Got myself worked up into a right hissy fit after an arguement with the fan coupling nut!
All out now, what a f&&king mess, steam clean required before anything gets back in there!
Sooo tempted by a hottuning manifold right now. Have to wait until final quote comes back from Mr.Engine.

If you are tempted, fit it before lowering the engine back into the bay,so much less hassle...monkeyboy1979 wrote:
