Hello All
I am helping a friend in spain we have a 1986 (dec) 318i and he is putting an E39 M52 engine into the car, I need to understand the wiring on the e30 as the wire colours appear to be different to the info on the net and here
We have
Fusebox side -
1 = blue
4 = brown/white
5 = brown/green
6 = green/yellow
7 = green
11 = white/ blue
13 = green/purple
16 = white/black
18 = black/ yellow
engine side
1 = blue
4 = brown/grey
5 = black/brown
6= green/yelow
7 = green
11 = white/blue
13 = purple/red
18 = black/yellow
20 = brwon
any help would be greqatly appreciated

here is my best guess, but not sure
1=blue alternator charge circuit
4= brown/grey temp sender/guage
5= black/brown - oil pressure light
6= green yelow - oxy sensor relay
7 = green - ign power
11 = white/blue - inst cluster reset
13= purple/red - fuel pump relay
18= black/yello - ign start
20 = inst cluster ground
any input is appreciated

next bit of help in need, as i now have the E36 loom, i didnt remove it so i'm a bit stuck, should it only have one ECU? also can someone let me know if the big plug with the cover is the plug that needs to be repinned as i was a bit surprised it had a cover thing on it!

The plugs in this picture from left to right are- Diagnostic plug - Engine to body plug - auto box plug
I cant make any sense of the wire colours you have listed

the diagnostic plug, i.e. the one with cover on it you don't need to touch. also you only need one ecu, the other is an autobox ecu and not required, depending on how far you want to go you can pair this out for tidyness.
as for the wire positions/colours you can work them out by using the pin data off the ecm and correlate them with what you have at the engine to body plug. i'll try and find my book with the relevant pins now for an e36 loom.

I've just noticed the dates of your posts and see that you got an e36 loom to replace the other one so you don't need the pin data anyhow oops. you should be able to follow the wiring guide to get what you need.
