I had a usable swimming pool in my boot area. About 3 inches of water when I first bought her. The rear lights had a small crack in them. Also the boot catch needed tightening, as there was a slight gap. So, rear lights were replaced and the catch tightened et voila: no more swimming.

Top tip for you with the light seals... take the old off carefully and clean the lights up etc, wipe down and crud on the light seals and turn them back to front and switch the O/S to N/S and vice versa... Because they have been sitting for so long the other way, when putting them on the other light, the seal is in a new position and creates a nice new seal :thumb:

I'm such a tight arsse, but it worked a treat when my swimming pool... I mean boot was a little wet.

if all else fails drill a small drain hole at the lowest point where the water collects and paint the edges of the hole to stop it rusting

good tip,il look tomorrow

no !

had a quick look at the boot earlier- the right hand side (same as the water) doesnt sit 100% on that side and can be pushed down a bit to make it flush, its like the mechanism on that side isnt pulling it down/shutting as tight as the other side and maybe water getting up and under the seal ? can that whole mechanism be ajusted and tightened ? im going to have a proper look tomorrow and check the light seals etc too

when i wash the car, i do hose the gap around the boot to flush out all the soapy water, so its possible the hose pushes it over the seal if its not sat flush/tight , which might be the case , as not noticed water there when/after rain, and water was on top of the battery tray cover thing that is risen up quite a bit from carpet level and i dont think water could get on that if it was the light seals, and there wasnt any wet on the carpet at all by the lights

Had a couple of these issues too. The drains/vents to atmosphere on the sidewalls also allow a little water in if not clear. I think the sunroof water drains there too - hence the pipe. The light seals are a favourite. There are issues with worn boot seals too, if you replace it put a little bit of sealer or glue on the metal as the water can creep up and over the metal lip under the actual seal. There should be some little drains in the wells, but if not then a little (remember to treat) hole in the bottom of the wells will help.

Chalk or talc is good for finding sources...

took the lights out and inspected the seals, look real good and new ish seals, so dont think its that

think its more to do with the rigth side of the boot not shutting as tight/flush as the left, can it all be ajusted ?

Not from the catch. Someone else could tell you if taking the boot off and repositioning how it's fastened could be a solution.

I'm just guessing you can do that! Has she had a shunt do you reckon?

dont think so, it all looks original and nice, its not major, its just a cple of ml it can be pressed down and not even noticable, ie like mentioned looks maybe just like the boot needs to be taken off, and put back on or ajusted slightly , like same with how the rear pop out window let a bit of air noise in...i undone the screws and re aligned tightened up and bingo !!! same sort of thing

thats of course if it is that ? need to check sunroof drainage things and also get all the boot carpet out etc somwhen

cars going in garage for the winter, so just wanna enjoy it till october and sort the niggles before stuff like that, over the winter its going to get a proper once over and full treatment etc to make 100% for the spring

Woooha there - bit drastic that is...

Is your sunroof drain pipe in the proper place or dangling about?

The water should drain out of the space through a hole in the floor that is probably blocked up with old muck. Suggest you dig that out with a screwdriver from below.

not checked mate, can you explain exact where that is etc and how to check ?

the car was stored from 2000-2009, and the fella i got it from had it garage kept, so its not really seen reain/regular water for a decade , so all the seals and drainage etc all has to be looked at
