Yes, this happened to my Minor Traveller a few weeks ago - odd vibes from the back end, parked up to find all the nearside rear nuts loose! :?

Happened to me, too on my old two door. Some kind person had popped off the wheel-nut cover, loosened all of the nuts fully then popped the cover back on to hide their meddling.

The wheel came off as a result. It's a very strange feeling being overtaken by one of your rear wheels

I too have found/failed to tighten wheel bolts.....

Worst case that I have seen takes me back to my time as an RAF driver,a WRAF driver brought an Escort in(Mk 2 estate 1.3ltr,went very well!)and mentioned that there was, 'a clunk when I put my foot down,Cpl' I went out into the hanger to investigate and discovered that the rear n/s wheel was held by just one nut,and all four holes in the rim were oblong shaped....further questioning of the young lady concerned revealed that the 'clunking' had started shortly after leaving her home base, and had got worse on her trip to Brize Norton, and much worse on the way back....'But I have a hot date,Cpl'....

You'll find that a three - wheeled E30 stops pretty quickly, to be honest. Mine wasn't destroyed by it's misadventure. I kept if for another decade (but with four wheels on!).

I left a tyre centre in my ahem, Saxo VTR :o:

[DISCLAIMER: I am entirely in touch with the shame of it all! I bought the Saxo from a workmate when my delightful diesel Mondeo (this isn't getting any better!) was scrapped. The Saxo had been modified by a gibbon. The wiring was held together by luck. I did manage to replace the rear 'Lexus' lights with standard items. The large exhaust and huge, wide 17" wheels stayed on for the duration of my ownership. Though I always was perfectly aware of how terrible and distasteful a car it was... it was pretty good at handling]

Within a few hundred yards, there was huge vibration from the front. By the time I limped back to the tyre centre, the NSF wheel had partially wobbled off. The wheel nuts were out by about 10mm

They had torqued the wheel bolts up but the threads were tight with metal shavings. One young tyre monkey was responsible. I didn't really even get an apology.

Sadly also, it didn't manage to destroy my car. A workmate of mine borrowed it for 15mins and wrote it off by driving in front of a lorry on a sliproad! :thumb:

Aye, had a Toyota Corolla that had done 20 miles since a service lose a rear wheel on a roundabout. Had three people in the back and had to jack the car up to remove the rear disk from the road.

Stopped pretty quickly though. Toyota dealer blamed a faulty torque wrench, I blamed the tool that had done the service.

Was it your wheel nuts? My car did it at higher speeds from 70 to 50 and it was the control arm bushing. Good time to upgrade to m3. :)

Yup, been there - back wheel on a Capri - didn't actually fall off though & I was happy to be able to 'fix' it so easily!

Me too, twice had the same back wheel work loose on the Transit.Noticed something was up and pulled in to find the studs barelt holding on 8O

Once had it in a Mini when I was 16 (driving up and down my,ahem, private road to dads farm!),my own fault as I forgot to do them up,the front wheel came off completely,no noticeable damage though and at a low speed thankfully.

And lastly,I forgot to do up the nuts on my Hillbilly trailer after dealing with a siezed drum,2 mile down the road a loud bang,a large spraying of sparks and the wheel shot past the trailer and car and continued on it's journey for another 300 yards  Thank god noone was coming! Incidently,of the four cars that were following me prior to the incident, not one bothered to stop and see if things were all right, tossers.
The only helpful person was a woman in a Vitara who put my wheel (that is now some distance away) on the side of the road for me.

it happened to my e28 few years back, thought to have some beer and leave the car, but then decided to drive home, after about a mile stopped and because of vibration only to find out that o/s wheel nuts all loose, I suspected then that someone was trying to nick wheels. Had it with e30 too with 14' BBS, not sure what happened then :?

This happened to me on my old SAAB on a track day at Castle Combe a few years ago, on my warm down after a session the front wheel started to make some radge noises. Nursed it back to the pits to find 2 wheel nuts were AWOL and the other 2 were very loose.

I was lucky but it could have went really wrong to be honest, we were showing an indicated 125mph+ going into Quarry!

Usually happens if the wheel has been powdercoated or had a load of paint, it needs to be scraped out of the recess's before you fit the wheel winkeye
