No need to modify mate, just going to use the old backs on the new lights. There are 3 screws on the back of the lights which you can undo and just remove the back and swap it for the modified xenon ones!Simon13 wrote:Adam you will need to modify the backs of those hella lights to make it work. Yes i did this too, and the aim is pissed i had an X in stead of 2 flat lines which have a shape like this \____ . My backs off the old lamps would not go in level if you get me, as hella have ever so slighltly changed the design! or where the screw holes are, which is rather annoying as they are near identical to the bosch units HTH

Dude i think that its also due to the ripples on the glass at the front, the focal point of the bulbs will be different.

Damn... so did you mod the hellas so that they give the correct beam pattern of are xenons a no-go with the hellas?Simon13 wrote:Yes i did this too, and the aim is pissed i had an X in stead of 2 flat lines which have a shape like this \____ . I just had a thought, it cant be the ripples in the glass because all we're doing is changing the light source... the actual light will shine through the same as with a standard bulb.
I really want to avoid butchering them if I can help it!

Yes this is true with the Hella backings on the hella fronts, but with the Bosch ones its deffo the ripples over the lense thats causing the problems.E30Adam wrote:I just had a thought, it cant be the ripples in the glass because all we're doing is changing the light source... the actual light will shine through the same as with a standard bulb.

Those BBS Motorsports do look the business on the Dolphin Sport. Thinking about it, it's similar to the Sebring Motorsports.

It does look good mate - nearly did it with mine but it didn't look right with the red - a quick photoshop by Giles proved that....Karan wrote: yeh but it looks extra good because its slammed with the h&r as is mine-- im gonna be doing this soon-didnt realise it would looks so good!

I really don't believe the ripples would do this to the beam!

I just had a play with the lights and they are totally different backs, I can't see any obvious way to get the backs from the OEM lights to fit.
I don't really want to go back to stock bulbs after having hte xenons.

They are not totally different, just slightly different. I have these tinted lights with the xenons on my car right now! It's just hella's interpretation of the elipsoid light. At a guess they (hella) cannot copy the bosch light exactly for copywrite reasons hence the glass differences also? Adam your lights are audi TT ones aswell?

Put them on Becky's car, come on Becky convince your fella that they would suit your car better. I was thinking over this mod on my Motorsport. And get your wheels back, your man is advising you wrongly he's stealing your parts!.
What does Becky think?.
Cheers Gareth.

How did you get the setup working, did you have to butcher the Hellas to get them working? I heard you had problems with the beam pattern to begin with, is it all sorted now?

no i need this sorting still but the back of the bosch light where the altering is done will fit in the hella unit. It's just the screw holes are in a different place so the xenon back does not fit in level. Plus they modded 2 left lights! which does not help obviously. This all my findings so far! Need to fix the back end before i resume with this project
