Quite the opposite imo new cars are awful, fit an lsd & get some practice in.. Fit a tech 1 spoiler to settle the rear end & if it's a bit buffetty at high speed, fit an mtec2 kit. If lowering, adjust the camber to suit & all should be fine..SHAKEELE30 wrote:if you worried about the handling, buy a new car which has traction on it....standard!!!

I completely disagree. In all of my years on the road I've never done a double take on a brand new M3 or M5, or even a brand new Aston Martin, they're 10 a penny on the roads around here and I just think of middle-aged estate agents and solicitors. Even a Ferrari or a Lamborghini only gets an extended look, never the neck-snapping "Wow look at that!"jonb wrote:Its just all this mistaken belief that the person in the 2011 m3 is looking at your and thinking that its great and a classic etc.
Yet without fail, every single time I go past a well-restored old car like a mk1 Capri, mk1 Golf, an E30, even a mk1 Fiesta or a Chevette, I can't help but stare and comment, and it's the exact same for whoever I'm with, even if they're not into cars.
Modern cars are better cars, there's no doubt about it, but when it comes to style, character and desirability, old always trumps new.
That aside, you're completely forgetting that a 2011 M3 costs a minimum of £55,000 - so if we're comparing like for like, and considering most people manage to keep their E30 budgets below £6,000 - if you compare any new car costing £6,000 to a restored E30, they're not even in the same league.

I seem to remember someone with the exact same avatar pic starting a thread almost exactly the same as this a few months ago and then ending up banned? Is it the same guy who's just been unbanned/re-accounted or is the avatar thing a coincidence and i'm adding 2 + 2 and getting twelvtysix?

Was it Chris-W then?
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.
Come on guys.
They are trash though. My mum has a 325 sport which she has had for over 10 years, it is completly standard and in very nice condition. In the last few years she has had 2 notes on the windscreen asking her how much she would sell the car for, they were both in txt speak 'ow much 4 the car' sort of thing. Doesnt that say alot? It really is stuck in that boy racer stage.

I'd say that just says more about the sort of people who would leave a note on the windscreen than the car.

The old tony tiger rear arch repair.
They are a bit shite in terms of performance, hundreds of modern cars would run rings round them. But for styling they excel, it's the look for me. Okay some of the detailing is a bit dodgy (under dash panel) but still has a rough charm.
Have to agree with Spencer's comments. Cars of a certain era just stand out amongst the contemporary dross that doesn't even register. Stuck in traffic today I spotted a young woman in what looked like a mint grey Merc 350SL. I couldn't stop staring.

A youth and his gilded female companion walked past my touring the other day and the young lad said,
"I want one of those but not an estate one,".
Need I say more?! Only youthful folly would lead a man to an E30 and only a boyracer would avoid the enviable practicality of a touring.

What an unusual comment to post on a site dedicated to the E30.jonb wrote:They look great as per usual but they handle like crap and are very slow compared to new stuff. They are far from classic's so they only fit into that 'cool' bracket. Did i mention the rust?

If mine was shite I would not drive it. Its reasonably powerful, comfy, good motorway cruiser, ok in the twisties, good condition, low milage, ex feature car, tons of room, looks good, etc etctoby wrote:He's a wind up merchant dude. Most E30s are shite though.

Did he say that with emphasis on "state"? I got that comment once for a corolla full of young lads. I can't wait for the M52 to be fittedtoby wrote:

Comical thread on here the last 2 days, this, buys stevie's car, it's all a bit of entertainment
Whose mistaken belief?jonb wrote: Its just all this mistaken belief that the person in the 2011 m3 is looking at your and thinking that its great and a classic etc.
I'm under no illusions about the car I drive. For me it's a cheap runabout. Thanks to this site it's also one I can just about manage to service and maintain myself.
Happens to look cool.
EDIT: Sort of- ish.
