Is it me or have the prices of MTEC 2 sports gone up??

Considering buying one but a half decent one is atleast £4,000.

Even at some examples for 4,000 they aren't even that clean and still need stuff doing to it..

Last time I was looking last year, the Sports were cheaper than the convertibles but its the other way round!

Any reason why?

My 2p -Lots of people jumping on the 'Speculative' pricing band wagon,

problem is that if enough of these clowns ask for silly monies against their festering turds it will sink into the back of most buyers minds, how many adverts are headlined 'sport rare'?

Good news for the owners of the properly minted examples though...

Prices should drop, I hope!

I dont think the prices will drop and the only ones that will drop will be the dogs.

If anything they will appreciate.

If I was in the market for a sport I would buy one as a project for 2.5-3k, which would still properly be ropey. Then budget 2.5k for restoration.

Buying a cheap one will only result in frustration/misery as alot of zoners have experianced. Theses old buses love to turn brown :)

I was just tinkering with the idea as I could buy a car for a 5 mile round trip too work but I could do without I suppose..my heart won't be in it as it won't be a cab so I'll just wait till after uni and by myself a cab and do it exactly how I want it!

Snag with sports is that bodykit, looks good but hides horrors so well...

Haven't owned an E30 in a while but looking at getting a Sport. Was going to start another thread but this seems like an appropriate place to post.

What about this:

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/3031350.htm

I've emailed the dealer selling this one and asked him if he's open to offers, which he says he is. Was gonna offer him £3.5k but reading the above that might seem like too much, especially as it seems to have a half-arsed lowering job and there are a number of other snags that would cost a few quid to put right. There is nice Lachs Silver one, albeit with basic spec, around the £3k mark on PH but I really fancy Zinnobar Red with the black leather interior; alas they command the highest premiums...

Cheers.

Honestly chap, we are in a recession.

The prices cannot and will not get any lower, only go up. In 5 years time they will be much more. theres no doubt about it, get one bought now.

Looks Brilliant Red to me...Never seen a Sport in Zinnobar though so I could be wrong.

Just out of curiosity, what were you hoping to pay for a "half decent" Sport?

Looks very nice and shiny and has all the right bits. I would ask to remove the rear door cards (very easy) so you can see the state of the inner arches. And also check all the other rust hot spots including opening the sunroof and shining a torch into the roof to look for rust. The front tyres are also mismatched and its been clocked like a lot of E30's.

Sorry, yeah, Brilliant Red! That's my inner 6 series loving gettting the better of me.

I've noticed all the things that are wrong with it and the best bargaining points are the mileage history and the patchy service history.

Yeah, you're all right, I suppose. Going to have to bite the bullet if I want a decent Sport and budget for 4k. I might offer him 3750 and see what he says. I want it totally OEM so would have to replace the front springs and get a new window (should be able to blag on insurance 'it just happened!') and sort out everything else. The other thing that bothers me is the large chunks of foam missing from under the bonnet and the fresh looking air box and hoses, suggesting it's been modded and demodded. Everything looks in order now, though. There are loads of extra photos on the dealer's website.

I'm not in the country for the next couple of weeks so I can either take a punt and stick a deposit on it or just sit tight, hope it doesn't sell and then go and haggle when I get back. I'm Edinburgh so it's quite close.

Thanks for the advice.

Not going to happen. The E30 M3 is a cast-iron classic already and is pulling Sport values up rapidly. I'd guess you could see a grand a year going onto the asking prices over the next 3-5 years...
