Thanks daimlerman, I've already worked my way through the wiki and done all the bits, I've narrowed it down to just the unlocking part not working so need to test for power to that side of it, just don't know which wires at the module.

Thanks willnz, I had almost given up. so if I rig a bulb or something to the green/blue and try to unlock I should see the bulb briefly light up, if it does It will be the module at fault is that right?

Bump for this as I'm having the opposite problem, i.e it will lock the doors and boot but not unlock them. I've grounded the green/light blue wire going to the central locking module but it makes no difference. Haven't tried the ground loop yet as I have a red/black and red/brown wire going to the A pillar connector. Or does the guide mean connect the red/black from the module to the red/black going to the A-pillar?

One red/black comes along the sill from the back and goes to the A pillar socket.
Another red/black comes from the locking module socket, loops into the interior light delay module socket and out again, and then goes to a different pin on the A pillar socket.
On cabs, the red/black does not loop from the locking socket to the light delay socket, but instead there are two separate red/black wires, one from the locking socket, and one from the light delay socket going directly both to the same pin on the A pillar socket.
Whether you have two wires or three going to the A pillar socket, cut them all away, and connect them all together so that the wire coming along the sill (the live power feed) goes directly to the lock and light delay sockets, without going anywhere near the A pillar socket.
The red/brown wire is for a completely different function, and is not part of this mod.

New (second hand) module arrived today, everything fitted and working. I guess I must just be unlucky this being the second time now, first one was waterlogged but the second one must have just, well, packed up i guess.

You have been very unlucky! I've never come across a dud one, other than those killed by water ingress.

Brian the one I have just fitted is slightly different in that you cannot take it apart, unlike the old one where you can take the board out and inspect. Although its working fine does that seem right to you?

Tried the bypass but no joy for me. Oh well, it's not a major annoyance not having central locking, I don't have many friends anyway

Get stuck in and sort it! No central locking may not be a major annoyance (although it is a significant safety factor), but owning a BMW where everything on it doesn't work as it did when it left the factory should be.
Open up the module, plug it back in, and see if operating the two relays by hand locks and unlocks the car.
