Found a random connector plug tonight I hadn't spotted before. It is under the inlet manifold



As my engine is a late m30, would this be for a lambda sensor? Or something else completely different?

Bit more progress this weekend, very busy with work the past couple of weeks so haven't been able to spend any time on the car. I've bought a new battery so hopefully will get round to starting the engine sometime this week

Got the cooling fan fitted:



And trial fitted air filter housing and e34 washer bottle. Just got to make up some brackets to hold them in place:



Whilst I had all the front end apart to fit the fan I treated all the surface rust with Kurust and then painted over. Going to tax the car 1st of July so can take it for a drive soon, can't wait!

I had a plug like this on both my M30's, i think its for the auto box and its normally fastened on a bracket under the starter motor.

Hard to tell from your pic Lee, but has the connector on your egine got some kind of cover on it? To protect the pins from the elements?

No updates to add this week, working flat out again Oh well at least it will pay for a LSD and roll cage in the not too distant future

Ready to fire up this weekend, hopefully my rewiring of the later c101 plug on my engine won't result in smoke and melted wires!

Downpipes fitted with no exhaust system yet, that should get the neighbours round if it starts and runs ok

Everything double checked under the bonnet, ready to start. The wiring on the c101 plug is just done with spade crimps for now, will solder them up properly when I know it is all ok



Filled the coolant up, and found a hole in the radiator I'm going to get it reconditioned this week.

Connected the battery, watching for smoke and blowing fuses, there wasn't any, so tried starting it. The engine spun over nicely with the fuel pump fuse out so put the fuse back and tried to start it. The fuel pump isn't running now! So got to check the wiring and possibly buy a new pump. There was a 15 amp fuse for the fuel pump rather than the 7.5 amp, and I read on here people put a higher amp fuse in when the fuel pump is dying as the 7.5 one keeps blowing.

Also, when you have changed the oil and filter, how long should it take spinning the engine on the starter for the oil light goes out? I gave it 4 spins on the starter for about 5 seconds each time and it didn't go out.

So close now, it's very frustrasting! I want to do a trackday with it on the 30th so need it done asap now

Radiator has been sent away, should get it back tomorrow.

Measured crank sensor resistance, between pins 1 and 2 I'm getting 0.492 k ohms according to my multimeter. In Lee's thread he said you need around 500 ohms, but my multimeter is saying k ohms, so guessing the crank sensor is broken?

Your reading is correct 500 ohms = 0.5 K ohms

Yes Rav,

There was a 15 amp fuse for the fuel pump rather than the 7.5 amp, and I read on here people put a higher amp fuse in when the fuel pump is dying as the 7.5 one keeps blowing.

No power to the fuel pump when switching on ignition or cranking the engine. Next stop is checking I have actually got a spark, and that my c101 wiring is ok. I've tried 2 fuel pump relays so far.

C101 is only 3 wires, you cant get them wrong

Pull out the pump relay, and use a wire link to join together pins 30 and 87 of its base. You should be able to hear the pump running.

What loom you using? didnt you have to cut the whole C101 off and graft another too it?

Yes Lee, I used a late M30 loom from an e34, everything else seems to work fine though, just not starting. Working late the next few evenings so won't be able to do any more testing till the weekend.

Radiator turned out to be beyond repair so a new one will have to be bought, using the money I had put aside to tax the car

Sorry mate, think it was the last one left, that's how my Dad managed to get such a good deal! A big plus point is my new rad has a threaded section to mount a fan switch in, where as my old one didn't.

Better get a couple more relays to try then! Are the relays known for failing?

Bled the brakes tonight, and the pedal is staying hard so fingers crossed all the new pipes and hose I fitted are ok.

Got a trackday booked for the 30th at Llandow, going with 2 mates with a 205 and a Sierra, so should be good fun

If you have no spark or fuel delivery, it is most likely the crank sensor is faulty.

I tested the crank sensor Rav, it checked out with the correct resistance, but thats not to say there isn't a fault with the crank sensor wiring. Going to do a bit more testing this afternoon and I'll report back. Cheers for all the help by the way

No, got to get another ECU and try that.

don't get another ecu and put your chip in it, get another 179 ecu with a standard chip and try that, just in case your chip is goosed

Good point I do have a Speedtouch chip here as well, so could try that in the other ECU possibly? But I'll aim to get a 179 if I can

Let me get this right, Its cranking over, but no spark and no fuel pump activation? If this is the case have you got all the positives from the m30 loom connected up?

Thats correct. I've gone over all the connections a few times, everything is connected as it should. I've hopefully got another ECU sorted to try
