ecu help and where is it

is there a difference between the 316i and 318i ecu and where is it i have stripped down my glove box and there is nothing there

I dont know exactly where they are on a 4 cylinder car but the 6 pots have the ECU above the drivers legs on a RHD car.

thanks in the haynes manual it said passenger side but that must be the left hand drives.
