Insurance (this time its a good quote!)

No, i havn't been smoking crack or munching on the disco biscuits, but an insurance company just did me what i think is a really good quote on a few different BMW's.
I recieved the following quotes....

BMW 325i ---------- Ԛ£632.20
BMW 325i Sport---- Ԛ£632.20
BMW 320i Cab ----- Ԛ£552.30
BMW 318iS -------- Ԛ£557.70
Cavalier 2.0 16v LS Ԛ£851.55

Who said BMW's were expensive hey!?

Now, i bet you are wondering what the name of this insurance company is, arent you? Well it might suprise you to know that it is the humble nodding dog, who really can save you money on your car insurance by the look of it!!!!
Tesco had quoted me Ԛ£996.00 to insure my Sport, so use this as a benchmark.

The quote would be for a 21 year old driver, with 2 years NCB, and have been driving for 3+ years.

So for anyone out there who's just turning 21, give them a look up on the net - they may just save you money too.

Thats exactly what i thought when i brought my first E30, jesus, this is going to hurt my wallet. But after owning 2 E30's in the last 4/5 years (320i + 325i), i can say that they are really no more expensive than anyother car...............

Try Quinn Direct. They don't advertise in the UK yet but are big in Ireland. Just had an interview with them, they specialise in settling claims very quickly, thereby removing soliciters from the equation......they pass the savings on.....apparently. I've not tried them but worth a go I recon.

E30s qualify for Classic insurance. Mine's insured with Lancaster, and it's Ԛ£500 fully comp and i'm 22. Limited mileage, but it's only a few quid extra to go up to 11k, you can get agreed value for an extra Ԛ£50 or so.

Well it doesn't require or earn NCB, but you get the same options for overnight location as a standard policy.

Back in Oz, the regs fro classic was limited mileage unless for show days/track days etc.. onece in a blue moon events. So you could drive it to work and back, as long as you didn't exceed the days/mileage. Not sure if its teh same over here, but just my 2p worth

Not as far as i'm aware. Mine's the only car that's insured in my name, and it's insured for SDP and commuting, just not full business use.

Crist they are expencive quotes! Had my renewal through and it'll make you sick. But first a small rant

got the renewal through from a company who I will call Ԛâ€Ëacompany AÔš' seeing as this is a pubic forum. Having had a year of my business, company A has decided they want even more money from me.

So seeing as I have:
* Never had an accident or claim of any sort in my 13 years of driving (therefore have substantial NCB)
*Never had a speeding ticket, parking ticket or any other sort of ticket issued against me.
*Drive a well looked after, completely standard 15 year old BMW 325
*It rests itÔš's self at night in a locked garage, and sits the day in a private office car park
* I DonÔš't to any work mileage
* And have a massive annual mileage of 8k

Last year I used confused.com and they recommended company A and I think my premium was Ԛ£500+. This year they want Ԛ£580 for the renewal. Straight away, after a couple of phone calls I was getting far better quotes. So at this point I let confused.com see what they can do, and company A appear at the top of the list with a very respectable Ԛ£280!

So I challenge company A regarding the fact that they were trying to charge me Ԛ£300 extra, by taking the renewal. The reason given to me was that they Ԛ“detected I was an existing customer and assumed I was trying to insure a second car, therefore was getting a preferential rateԚâ€a. I donÔš't know if it is just me or if I could smell the distinct fragrance of bullsh** . Prehaps it is common practice to own two cars with the same registration number?

Anyway, after adding my gf as a named driver, and the operator having a quick discussion with her manager they now decide they can insure me for Ԛ£287, fully comp.

So the moral of this seems to be, if you want to save Ԛ£293 on your insurance, stick my girl friend on as a named driver

I've just renewed my insurance and went via Confused.com.Lancaster came out with the best overall package though not the cheapest. I was with Tesco and their renewel was Ԛ£600 fully comp including legal and courtesy car. Lancaster came in at Ԛ£364 fully comp with legal,courtesy car and breakdown. It's my only car and there doesn't seem to be any major differences between them and every other brand. The car is a 320i which I know is cheaper and I'm 33 with 1 yr NCB.

I can vouch for Quinn.. They quoted me Ԛ£507 comprehensive for me. No ins for 2 yrs, been in the uk 4 months, 30yo, no convictions etc, alarm and mobiliser fitted.
