Just wondering if there are any little tweeks one can make and where you would start if you had a standard engine to work with?

First thing to do mate is make sure the engine is bang on, fresh oil service, new filters, valve clearances spot on, injectors cleaned, make sure there are no splits or cracks in vacuum hoses and intake elbow, get any sensors checked out/replaced if needs be. This will be far more beneficial to your cars feel and performance than bolt on mods.

Once you've got it up to scratch the worlds your oyster really mate. How much do you want to spend? And what sort of use does the car get? road? track? etc

Then this;

http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... c&t=152878

No really simple, cheap performance gains, exhaust manifold and aftermarket cams are available, and a capacity increase will help.

In general, every 10bhp from the stock 171bhp will cost about £1000....

A chip will in most cases provide a useful gain in power/torque and driveability. winkeye

The ones I can provide give the following gains:

EcoTorq M20B25 Mild; 7-11bhp gain, significantly enhances the torque for driveability/improved fuel economy (expect at least an extra 2-3mpg average) and eliminates flat spots, also a 6900rpm rev limit. An ideal blend for daily motoring, also works well with automatics.

M20B25 Wild; 8-15bhp gain, up to 192bhp if combined with 268/268 cam, BBTB and six-branch as per Alpina C2 2.5 spec, 7000rpm rev limit. Best suited for fast road/track day use.

The chips are a doddle to fit (only takes half an hour at most) and is a cheap and easily reversible mod.

Why not?
Because you can get a 15bhp gain for £650 then another 10bhp on top of that for £800.

This is on the proviso that the M20B25 is in fine fettle.

So for £1450 you can get 25bhp?

That's not far short of my BALLPARK GENERAL fiqure,is it?

I see that you do not include the cost of your Viper chip in your 15bhp claim!

No its 25% short of you BALL PARK figure!

WTF are you on about viper chip?!

The PROVEN 15bhp gain is a BTB manfold for £650

The other 10bhp gain for £800 is for a cam (£400) and a remap (£400)

I was not "done" on anything as my car has not been remapped. The £400 was for 8 hours labor @ £50 ph. A time of which i was being generous.

The £300 Gunni charges is good value.

It also goes against your "£1000 for every 10bhp"......

boring.................

Things like valve clearances and spark plug gaps all help with the running of the donk and can influence the idle/power delivery a little. All helps

Should I run 3 litres of fuel or fill the tank? Inflate the front tyres and deflate the rears? Or should I take the interior out and be a complete and utter hopeful? :D
