Hello Hap,
1.Is the scuttle pannel ok ?? No holes etc(probably not ,ive seen your car in person).
2.Check the drain on the firewall isnt blocked and causing water to weap in.It looks like an elephants trunk and is located near spark plug 6 on the bulkhead/cover.Twister 90 degrees clockwise and it will come off. They are ofter full up with crap.Mine was blocked SOLID !

hope that helps

it could also be a worn out grommet which sits in the back of the battery tray in the engine compartment on the firewall. The water can puddle up on the tray then leak in over.

Hi mate, im on with my s50b32 conversion at the moment, that why i haven't been to any meets for a while.
The firewall is the section of sheet steel which seporates the engine compartment from the interior compartment.

Water from the sunroof drain normally fills up the inner sill though, you know where the central locking unit and light delay relay are behind the drivers side speaker,so it shouldn't get onto the carpet from there. Its caused by blocked sill drain holes. If the sunroof drain pipe has come off and its coming from there through the pillar then maybe but id put my money on the drainpipe trunk in the engine bay near plug 6.

cheers

Hap, are your jacking points on the front OK?

Slightest bit of rust here can cause damp carpet.

I've just had mine on the touring removed, this was the only bit of rust I had on the car.

agree with simon there, only solution is to pull the bit of carpet up in that corner mate, unscrew the kick panel and will also have to remove the under dash panel, you should be able to pull the carpet away, probably have to disconnect the link on the throttle pedal and maybe pull the plastic strip on the edge of the sill off too.

There is tonnes of foam padding in that area so the chances are there will be a fair bit of water in the carpet/foam which won't dry out very well unless you can pull the carpet up and leave it up to breathe. Odds are you have a small hole in the corner of the floor there

Simon, how much did you pay for this to be sorted as I have this problem in the passenger footwell, on top of water getting in where the air vent is where the wiper motor is located.I have bodged some silicon in there but it is still leaking.

Lee I paid Ԛ£20 to have them removed, and a nice thick piece of metal welded over, all the rust was removed from underneath, and then sealed over, this was both sides.

Simon, was that a banzai mates rate as sounds too good to be true. I already have my carpets out ( have been running without carpets for about a month now) so that saves hassle. I will do some ringing around as I could do with getting that knocked on the head as well as the rear subframe bushes done. The list of jobs on my car just keeps growing, the bag of shite!

People probably think I'm a liar when I quote these prices!

I use this mechanic regular, he always does a good job and don't mind taking my car there, it's not exaclty a huge establishment, but he's been in the trade for years, and doesn't charge stupid money, that's why he's so busy and has his regulars.
He also didn't have to remove the carpets!

I will try and get a pic of the job he did.

Simon

Your prices almost make me feel that I could drive the car to your way, spend the night somewhere (probably go out on the lash) and still save money!

Hap, if you pull the carpet up you will be able to see any signs of water coming in from above. On my car on the passenger footwell I am getting water because of a small hole in the corner where the jacking point is, but also it comes in through the air vent on the front scuttle panel. It is possible you could have this happening on your driver side, water comes in through the air vent where the wiper is mounted, as it is supposed to, but if you have any rot underneath there then it runs through and down the back of the bulkhead/firewall (behind the pedal box) and into that corner.

Solution here really is to get the carpet pulled out in that corner and then tip a cup full of water into the vent area and see if any water drips down. Will eliminate that as a problem or not before you get your trousers taken down for any unnecesary work by the bodyshop.

Simon They do say you get what you pay for and looking at that 'jacking point' (what jacking point?) i'd say thats about Ԛ£20 worth!.
And as for welding the floor with the carpet still fitted mmm.......

 ignore the sill, I've yet to tackle that, it looks bad, but it's just surface rust.
I've had the jacking point removed (the large square area that you shouldn't jack the car up with!) as it was rusting all around the side of it and water was soaking into the carpet, there was no point in rebuilding them as they seem to be a rust trap.

Hap, only saw your PM last night, I can ring later?

I'd try and find the sunroof drain pipe, get the speaker cover out and have a good feel about in there, also get someone to pour some water into the sunroof opening, try and put the car on a slope so that it runs down the drain at the front drivers side, and find out if the water comes out in the right place.
