Am I right in thinking you can replace a plastic M52 one with a metal one from something else? M50? S50?

Got a bit of a leak from mine..

Ooops.. S50 one is very different, so a no there.

Plastic ones are cheap new..

I hear everywhere to avoid the plastic ones and only use the alloy one, can't tell you why tho.

I think it's due to the reason I need to fix mine..

Where can I find an alloy one/donor though?

i remember danthe saying they were available at ecp although ecp often didn't know that.

I think the biggest reason they crack is down to how people tighten them up in my honest opinion!!
I ran a plastic one on my m50 which I took off to fit an 88 degree stat and put back on, I ran that engine for over 5000 miles with no issue what soever!

I have a plastic one on my current m52, I checked it over thoroughly and same procedure with fitting lower temp stat and re fitting..... Still going strong

Over tightening cracks them around the bolt holes and that's where you get problems

ECP sell the metal ones for less than £20, The plastic ones are hit and miss tbh. They get brittle over time anyway and snap off at the hoses as a worst case!!

This is what I used when ordering my parts, ECP: 210110030

I think it's plastic in the diagram on the site, I got him to check before buying it over the phone and it was alloy. Cheap as well.
